Popped in for brunch on Sunday along with friends and the food was just fantastic. I have knocked 56 North in the past but it appears they have gotten themselves back on track, producing excellent food and the staff are just super welcoming. Keep up the good work guys you really did make my Sunday one of the best.

The steak sandwich's were cooked to perfection. Lovely atmosphere with good music (not too loud) was able to conduct a conversation. Staff could not have been more helpful in explaining the differences in the many gins on offer. Tried a couple of different Scottish gins. Will definitely be going back. Also many thanks to the manager for a wonderful eating... More

The gin tasting afternoon tea is a fantastic experience. The class is really good fun and the staff are so knowledgable about all gins, and I mean all! It is entertaining and brilliant to try lots of different gins. The afternoon tea was nice with lovely rolls and tasty cakes and scones. We booked a table and stayed on to... More

Been going here for years. Great for an occasion. Whether it's a big night or a just a quiet pint. Nice staff who do everything to please the customer and a great selection of drinks and food. Food is good and pricing justified.

We go to 56 North a lot. We went initially for the burger voucher deals and enjoyed it so much we have returned regularly and we go for the brunch deal around once a eeek. The food is delicious but what impresses us more and more and especially when we were there today, is the quality and friendliness of the... More

We had a good dinner here recently. We booked on line and only 8pm was available though we would have preferred earlier. When we arrived, the restaurant was almost empty which was a bit strange, and we maybe should have phoned to book. We were seated promptly and service was excellent. I had salmon with sweet potatoes and a mango... More

We booked here for lunch following my daughter's recommendation and weren't disappointed. The gin menu is huge and the suggested garnishes along with fevertree tonic were fun and tasty with something for every palette. Plenty of beers too but nothing dark. Most were light with some fruity. Plenty of US imports. The menu has good choices. Our party tried the... More

If you're not a gin lover, this probably isn't for you. If you are a gin lover, this is the best bar you'll ever step foot in. With over 200 gins behind the bar it cannot disappoint. We did the 'gin tasting' session which was 2 hours long. It was really great fun and I would definitely recommend booking on... More

Went along with my partner as wee treat for our anniversary. Bought this with "ItIson"voucher for a Gin Masterclass and Afternoon Tea. Never been to one of these before and WOW it was fantastic. The class was 5 star from the start to finish, Neil who was taking the class was so passionate and friendly. He really caught the attention... More

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
