As visitors to this city we chose a restaurant at random. Lots of people sitting outside in the cool air. We were very happy with our dinners (lamb chops and salmon) and the bruschetta appitizer. The house merlot was very reasonable. The servers were very pleasant. It was a great choice.

Glad we found this place as it was a really pleasant experience. Very genial "Mine host" who told it as it was and helped make our choices easier. Could not fault the food at all and the wine was excellent. Not the cheapest but it is in a prime location Very friendly staff.. We will be back.

Food was perfect and such a friendly welcome from the hosts. One of the best pizzas I've ever had. Would highly recommend visiting.

We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday, without booking. The staff were friendly and pleasant and the food very tasty.

Didn't have a reservation and it was Saturday evening and we were early. Soon filled up with a mix of people, some visitors and some locals. Food was good and the wine not that expensive. Will definitely go again

1. The restaurant inside looks like a cheap cafe diner and not a restaurant. 2. The menu is like a roadside cafe with limited meals on offer. 3. Staff looked like it was their first day trying to run a takeaway food shop. 4. We ordered what was highlighted on the men their must have try our lasagne with garlic... More

I have eaten here a few times now and love it. Great food, cooked right in front of you, and served by friendly staff. When a restaurant is in such a busy tourist area like this one is, there is a temptation to let standards slip as you are so busy anyway - not so at Gordon's Trattoria - the... More

Had our evening meal here while in Edinburgh. Absolutely gorgeous food, ham and mushroom pizza and the calzone were lovely! Service excellent and nice atmosphere. Beer a little pricey but it is on the Royal Mile! Would highly recommend and hope to return soon!

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
