Keep your mind open and try the Haggis Tower - it's delicious (and very filling). The staff were lovely, attentive, chatty, smiling. Besides the haggis this place is a pretty regular pub.

After visiting the National Scottish Museum, we looked for a place to eat and found this gem. On the small side, but it was early and they were able to accommodate our party of four, including our toddler. They had a kids menu with a picture to color on the other side. Food was excellent, good sized portions, great selection... More

We ate here 3 times during our 1 week trip and tried many things on the menu. The overall food quality was great and we don't have any complaints. The portions were hearty and the service was prompt.

Small dining area but very clean and staff were nice. Limited menu but this is never an issue so long as the food is good and plentiful - which it was. Vegetarian haggis was delicious with the whiskey sauce. Others in my party had cheese burger and steak and ale pie that both looked and smelt delicious and apparently they... More

We had steak sandwiches and Lamb Shank both of which were well presented and tasty. My husbands flight of scotch - Highland Fling - lived up to his expectations. My Boozy Hot Chocolate wasn't all that great. I should have tried the Hot Toddy instead!

My wife had the pork chop special, and I had the vegan curry. Both were OK, but the curry was better than the pork chops. This is one of those places that is, in fact, a nice little place with OK food. But because it's in an area frequented by tourists, it is reviewed more often, and more favorably, than... More

We came in early (6 pm) which was good because the place filled up during the Thursday evening. The fish batter was crisp and nice, the veggie haggis delicious and the ale and steak pie smelled really good. To top it of we had sticky toffie pudding, a portion that was enough for three.

If you want To taste Traditional Scottisch flavour this is the best place in Edimburgo! For the breakfast for the dinne. Haggis and Angus are the best!! The waiters are very kindly and the service too fast.

Really good food, friendly atmosphere. Would really recommend the haggis and cranachan! YUM!!! It is a pub with food, so not right if you are looking for fine dining, but if you just want some lovely hearty food, this is the right place to go!

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
