We made reservations since we had a big group of seven people. The restaurant wasn’t too big but sat us comfortably. It wasn’t super busy either. I ordered the Steak and Ale Pie with a Shirley Temple. They had traditional Scottish food like haggis too....The food and drinks were really good and made me pretty full. I also ordered dessert, Cranachan, but I thought it was pretty expensive for what it was. My friends also ordered a flight of whiskey and enjoyed their drinks.More

Visited in the mid-afternoon. Two of us had the Crofter's Chicken and the other two had the Fisherman's Pie. The chicken was cooked well and the whisky sauce was flavorful. The Fisherman's Pie had large pieces of salmon and haddock. Service was attentive and the...place was clean. We would definitely eat here again when visiting Edinburgh.More

We order the steak sandwich. And they brought us a burger bread with minced meat with almost no flavour. We asked if that was how the regular sandwich was and they told us that actually it was with brioche bread but they run out of...it. They just did not tell us!! I told them next time you should let your customer know because maybe they would prefer to get a burger instead.More

I pre booked a table at the Royal McGregor before we travelled to Edinburgh. The menu was varied and there was something on it for everyone. The food was absolutely gorgeous I had the vegan chilli and cheesecake, some of our party had the sticky...toffee pudding which was light and tasty. A lovely little restaurant on the Royal Mile with great food and friendly staffMore

Well worth a visit for a hot lunch. The two course set menu was delicious and the haggis is cooked to perfection.

wanted to grab a quick bite before doing a walking tour (the position is brilliant for this) and both my girlfriend and me had a very good dish in a cozy and friendly atmosphere

Worst burgers we had in our life. Burned buns, dry and overcooked meat, unmelted cheese on the cheeseburger, no sauces, no flavor, nothing. Unimpressive service, weak atmosphere. Not expensive, but not worth it. We were very disappointed, especially considering the rates that this place has.

Returned with my husband last month (24th Jan). As usual -excellent food, great atmosphere, lovely staff. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Returned with the rest of the family on the sunday morning for breakfast, which again was realy good. Have recommended this place to many people,...who also now consider it a 'must visit' when in this wonderful city. Will be back again soon.More

We arrived for a late Thursday night dinner and had the attention of the staff since the restaurant was not very busy. We chose this restaurant because they had skink on the menu but they ran out just before we arrived. We should not have...waited so late and that was our fault. Instead, our group had the haggis burger which was very good, maybe a little over cooked, the seafood pie which was so good and such a large portion that my friend almost hurt herself trying to eat the whole meal and I had the most delicious lentil soup. Everything was lovely and it was a great comfort food meal on a chilly winter night.More

Place is nice, in the city centre just next to the castle. Customer service are really kind and cheerful people, although.... We went there for Scottish breakfast, ordered Full Scottish breakfast, It wasn’t well prepared I would call it „blank” - not much spices and...not very tasty. What’s the most important —> there was something wrong with food cause after eating only this during the day we had stomach problems which caused us vomiting and staying inside our apartment... I can’t recommend it unfortunately.More

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
