We are from South India and the food was shocking. Nothing tasted fresh!! To be honest tasted more stale than fresh. The idli was dry and hard!!. Masala dosa was salty and dry. Lemon rice and coconut rice tasted as though they were prepared days ago and warmed several times. We also ordered some North Indian food - flavourless!! Paratha... More

As a brummie living in Edinburgh I have been looking for a local curry house to get my weekly fix, this is it. I've been five or six times now and each excellent, most of the dishes are served with a lot of sauce in a bowl, bit like a Baltic and just how I like them. the sea bass... More

Even though the restaurant doesn't look much it is worth visiting. The service and food were second to non ; they ensured the food was adapted for our children. Great value for money and it was also byob.

We ordered Idli and dosa. They were stale, hard and tasteless. The cutlery was so dirty. I saw the bartender pouring vodka for the Customers with the cap of the vodka bottle and spilling it all over. Poor hygiene! Never going back!

It a wrong review. We have more than five alcohol measures for different unit. Some one trying to spoil our reputation. We welcome everyone to come and see our recorded CCTV video. More

We regularly visit Mezbaan because of the relaxed atmosphere and tasty South Indian food. There have a great selection of options for vegetarians including Dosas (a large spicy potato filled pancake) at a very reasonable price. This place is entirely unpretentious and has a very down to earth, honest feel.

Found this as was handy for accommodation and had the usual mixed reviews that everywhere gets on TripAdvisor but with sufficient “above average” ones to make it worth the gamble, especially having never knowingly had specifically South Indian food before. Yes, the place looks fairly shabby inside (but give me “down to earth and basic” over a “posh looking” curry... More

We were famished after a long day at City Centre in Edinburgh. We were looking for an South Indian meal. Its been a while we haven't had any authentic South India cuisine. TripAdvisor suggested this restaurant. We were reluctant previous but then we were so hungry. Ambience was good but not the best. I like the background Indian music though.... More

The menu has plent of options, the decor could do with a good clean. The staff were very friendly and accomodating. I asked for suggestions for my meal which the waiter really excelled on. My starter though was still frozen in the middle, not cold but frozen. They were 3 doghnut shaped chicken starters. After mentioning to the waiter, they... More

Stumbled across this great restaurant whilst looking for an Indian Meal near to Lothian Road in Edinburgh. It is a clean well turned out restaurant. The staff were friendly and attentive. It has an interesting menu, as it is South Indian food it wasn't just a list of the traditional favourites nice to try something different. My starter the chilli... More

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
