Came here on Valentine's day with my partner. Staff were extremely attentive and friendly. Starters and mains were incredible - easily the best place to eat out in Dundee. Prices were more than reasonable for the quality of food and service. Can't wait to visit again.

Always a lovely welcome at The Playwright and lovely little touches along with the meal. Great cocktails and the serving staff always seem knowledgeable about the menu and are able to provide additional information. I am always confident in how fresh the food is and how unusual and interesting it will be. It really is my favourite place to eat... More

Went here for Christmas night out, food was beautiful, a few extra mini courses were given to try, great portions and the wine was also really good. The staff were attentive and cheery, and were quick to assist if needed. Will definitely return next time I'm in dundee

Have visited this restaurant a few times and have always enjoyed the food, it is not exceptional but always tasty enough. The service is friendly and relaxed. I just do not like the huge picture of the actor on the wall it puts me off a bit when i'm eating ..

In a trip passing through Dundee, I had a look on TripAdvisor too what is locally palatable. This came up a reassuring top. Tables were available in abundance on this Saturday afternoon. The food was fantastic - in true Scottish spirit, there was salmon, pigeon and Angus beef, with twists and updates. Attentive staff, stylish surroundings and calm atmosphere. A... More

I was here with my parents for a family celebration. We chose the pre theatre menu which we though was excellent value at £20 for three courses (an extra £4.95 if your have the steak). The food was excellent, we all had the steak which was cooked to perfection. I had the peanut butter cheesecake which was to die for... More

What we had was fine. But being the foodies that we are couldn't help thinking that if this is the best fine dining experience Dundee has to offer then there's still a bit of catching up to do. It very central, very handy if you're going to the theatre, parking is easy and the menu is very accessible to most.... More

Visited the Playwright on a Friday night in January with my partner. The wine was fantastic and the food was even better. This chef really knows what he's doing and everything we got was delicious. Peter and all his staff couldn't have been more welcoming and nothing was any trouble. Wouldn't hesitate in visiting again.

Had dinner here with my wife for the second time. The food was first class, however it was slightly marred by the fact that we were the only customers! It kind of spoiled the atmosphere but couldn't have been foreseen.
