We ate here today after getting a voucher as a Christmas present. Everything about our experience was a delight, the food was exceptional and the service first rate. We had the roast beef main course, the beef was beautifully cooked, the vegetables delicious and the...ragu stuffed yorkshire pudding amazing. We both then had the lemon posset dessert which was delicious. This was the nicest meal I’ve had in a long time and the chef must be complimented on both the quality of the ingredients and their culinary skills. The table staff were very attentive and professional and they added to an already excellent experience. Well done Sooty Olive, I will definitely return soon.More

Dined here last night for NYE, we had soup & chowder to start, both so yummy! Then fillet steak, cooked to perfection. Defo recommend the whiskey & mushroom sauce. Very impressed & service was great, can’t wait to return already :)

My wife and I went for early dinner, on Saturday. We were greeted by Zara , a very cheerful smiling welcome. The Amusee Bouche was a pork dish and was very nice. I had the Seafood chowder , it was just fantastic, I do not...think I have ever had better. My wife did not have a starter but had the Chicken dish which she really enjoyed. My main was fish of the day , which was cod, the Jus was a butter type sauce, and was ‘ to die for’ as they say! We shared the cheese cake , orange and passion fruit, and again was delicious. I really could not recommend this restaurant any higher , I have had meals in Michelin star restaurants that were not as good. Will be back soon.More

Firstly, the staff were extremely attentive, knowledgeable and friendly without being intrusive. Secondly, the food was was so good, you knew it was freshly prepared and cooked to perfection. A real tasty meal and you knew you were eating good quality ingredients very like a home cooked...meal. My husband and I both had 3 courses and enjoyed every dish. The price is very good for the extremely high standard of food and served in very comfortable surroundings. This is by far the best Sunday lunch available in Derry. We will be backMore

Great evening in The Sooty Olive. The menu has a limited selection which allows the kitchen to provide top quality dishes. The Duck was the highlight of the night and a lovely bottle of red wine to share. Service was fantastic and everyone was polite...and attentive. Great night and one of the top restaurants in Derry!More

We were fortunate to stay around the corner and to get a table on a Thursday night. The standard of food was fantastic and each course was just the right balance of flavours and size. Excellent value for the standard of food. Staff were really...nice and considerate especially as our 9 year old was a little tired and hungry - getting the chef to do his meal first and checking he liked it. Great experience. Only comment is no vegetarian main - I am pescatarian so wasn't an issue but if I didn't feel like fish I am not sure what I would eat - chef might make up a special dish if asked?More

Staff were so helpful and friendly, a credit to the Sooty Olive. The grub was amazing - and the cost compared to similar standards of restaurants in Belfast was a really pleasant surprise. Cannot wait till our next visit!!!
