This must be the find of the decade. If you don’t like Italian don’t go. But if you do There is no better place. It is brilliant. The owner and waiter are fab. Don’t ask for anything British it is Italian food at its best....I can not compliment them enough. BrilliantMore

Wanted a small local restaurant as still wary of Covid and came across this little Italian. The food was delicious and undoubtedly cooked fresh. The host, I'm presuming the owner, was so welcoming and spent a good 10 minutes talking to us about the different...pastas from regions of Italy. Will definitely go back again.More

We saw this on trip advisor and to be honest I wasn't really sure. The restaurant looked more like a shop in some of the photos, and I was not convinced that it was going to be a good experience and I was very wrong....We visited mid week, just ahead of new lockdown and we were asked for track and trace information, the tables were well separated and the staff, and other diners all wore masks. The place was spotless. The 'shop' elements that had made me concerned actually were very well organised and made me want to buy pretty much everything I could see. The two people in there serving /cooking could not have been more friendly. Then came the food...... A small and simple menu, everything was cooked fresh and the amazing smells as it cooked made my mouth water. When the food arrived I could not have been more pleased. Really well cooked, generous portion sizes and absolutely delicious. I'm so very glad we went, and it won't be out last visit. Next time though I may swap a starter for a dessert and take a Christmas shopping list because everything looked amazing. I think during lockdown they changed what they are able to provide which accounted for the photos I saw, but I really think it just adds to the experience. Highly recommended.More

Myself and my husband came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary, we couldn’t have asked for a better place to go, from amazing food to excellent service. Also felt very safe here as we could see that hygiene steps that were being taken. The owner...was incredibly friendly as was the wonderful young man who served us (I believe his son?) very reasonably priced, big portions but incredible tasting food! We will definitely be visiting again with our family!More

Booked for a family of ten after many months of social distancing and being apart. Fantastic food which the whole family enjoyed - youngest was 15, oldest was 83. Could not recommend more. Lovely staff and excellent service. Five stars

My wife and I were passing through Newport and decided to find somewhere to eat we saw many different restaurants/takeaways of a common nature but wanted more wholesome food so we noticed Marenghis and decided to give it a try and what a great choice...we made! Food was great, the whole experience was 'bellissimo' the meat balls, pasta and the vegetables were exquisite. Mario the owner/chef could not do enough his customer service skills are second to none. We were waited on by his son who has clearly observed the skills of his father. Lovely place, lovely people. Really looking forward to heading to Newport just to go to Mario's.More

Unexpected delight with service and food quality when we stopped for lunch in Newport. The Risotto Al Funghi was delicious cooked with love and care. Marenghi's seemed like a locals favourite coffee shop but was more than that!Mu

Five of us visited recently to celebrate my friends 75 th birthday. I did not eat more than a few mouthfuls of my duck salad. No duck visible. I asked where it was and found a sprinkling of crispy duck skin or maybe thigh cooked...so crisp I couldn’t bit into it. The salad needed some dressing to make it easier to eat.The waiter did ask if I hadn’t enjoyed my meal. I told him why and he replied that was how it was served. No apology, no offer of any recompense. I replied that I didn’t have to return! Crepe suzette tough, not flambd. With so many lovely eating places in south east Wales, we won’t return having spent £50 per head.More

Dear Ceri, There appears to have been a mistake. You did not dine with us as we did not cater for 5 people for a 75th birthday as you have described. We do not serve duck salad or Crepe suzette. We also do not charge...More
