We dined here on Valentines night, was busy but staff couldn't do enough for us. Food was delicious as it always is and reasonably priced too - would highly recommend to anyone!

We all enjoyed all the food we chose on both visits. We had a range of dishes, rib eye steak, fish etc. The portion size was very good and the vegetable sides were lovely. The restaurant is a family run establishment and the bar is used also by the locals. They booked a taxi on the first night at our... More

This is an excellent pub. Great atmosphere when you walk in and very friendly and professional staff. 6 of us ate here last night and it was a good menu with something for everyone. The food was fresh and piping hot and absolutely delicious.

Wonderful Sunday lunch! Had never visited before which we've now realised was a mistake. The Crown is in a beautiful position surrounded by stunning Welsh hills. The building is old with a cosy feel to it and feature fireplace. The food was superb - I can't remember the last time I had such fantastic beef! No fat and beautifully tender.... More

Just what you want from a country pub. Cosy fire, friendly atmosphere and excellent food throughout the year (although the fire isn't usually lit in summer). For something special try the fish night, which is usually held near the Abergavenny Food Festival, great food with wines to go with each course yum!

The Crown was recommended by the delightful host of the nearby Hardwick Farm B&B (reviewed separately). The hotel is popular and we managed to squeeze a table for two on a Friday evening. We were not disappointed: great atmosphere, excellent local beer, friendly publican and staff, a good menu to choose from, and excellent food. So good, we returned the... More

First visit ( based on the reviews for the best Sunday lunch in the area) and we were not disappointed. My scallop starter was delicious- perfectly cooked jewels on a smooth creamy veloute. My salmon main was good, with plenty of beurre blanc sauce. There is an ample amount vegetables ( we had peas, baby carrots and cauliflower cheese ).... More

The Crown is renowned for its food - quite deservedly so. But just in case any readers wish to know, the beer isn't half bad either - well actually it's terrific. As a rule four perfectly kept cask ales: Rhymney Best (traditional 3.7% bronze malty session bitter); Hereford Pale Ale alternating with Monty's Pale Ale (both straw coloured hoppyish beers... More

We found this pub on TripAdvisor as we'd come from Oxford to walk in the black moutains. It had great reviews so we thought we'd give it a try. It was lovely and cosy inside with a log burner going in the corner. We had two baguettes, steak and ale pie and an extra bowl of chips. The food was... More

I stopped here for lunch and although it was very busy, they made sure they would make room for me. I sat at the bar (while I was waiting) and chatted with some very interesting locals. It was a very nice and relaxing atmosphere. My lunch was very good and the service, excellent. I would love to return there one... More
