Very welcoming landlord who made us feel genuinely welcome and important. Selection of real ale. Food pretty good - not amazing but good. (Huge pizza - could easily feed 2). Student / sports pub. Recommend for a beer and reasonable meal at a decent price, served by friendly staff.

My friends and I decided to drive down to aberystwyth last week, and decided to stop at scholars for some food - best decision of the day. Two of us had the lasagne, a pasta dish, and fish and chips. Everybody enjoyed their meals, and had clean plates!! The prices are reasonable and the dishes were massive! Well worth the... More

*maggot alert* Very disappointed, gone out for a birthday meal with 4 other friends. Two of us had a starter which was lovely. When it came to the main course my friend had a maggot in her vegetarian pasta dish (confirmed by the kitchen staff that it was intact a maggot)! Asked them to take all our food back and... More

looks nice from outside, pretty ordinary fairly basic and rough looking pub inside. No comforts or reason to want to stay there except as a drinking den - for some people that would be perfect, but it's a rather limited offer.

The Sunday Roast here is really good. The location is excellent and the cosy quaint interior is wonderful. Will definitely return.

Scholars is a uni graduate/lecturer favourite. Great selection of beers and pub food, sometimes a wait for food - live bands. Busy on weekends. Great Sunday carvery

I was in two minds whether to visit having seen two sides from other reviewers. Sunday lunch proved to be busy as expected.my mid 50's wife and I were the youngest by 30 years and yes the music was too loud. However the beer was excellent and the carvery well worth £7.95. 4 pieces of meat - I had beef... More

The bolognaise topped pizza is very generous - sufficient for 2 ! Nice ambience, friendly staff. Careful where you sit - music can be overwhelming conversations !

Dropping my sister off at uni and Italian food was the only thing we fancied, after seeing great reviews and hearing that Scholars had Little Italy in the upstairs of the pub, we thought we'd give it a go. Had an amazing meal and I can't explain how nice the staff were, very accommodating and friendly, the restaurant part which... More
