Overall the bar part is really nice and a good range of beers on tap. Prices ok for a hotel !!! Did not eat here so can not comment, but it look busy enough in the restaurant. I bet this place makes a killing in the summer with its outside space.

Great news! The Blue River Cafe has ditched its awful a la carte menu and returned to its origins, upmarket cafe food at a reasonable price! I had Sheperds Pie the other day. Excellent! Well done to those responsible! A special mention must also go to the new General Manager Karen Carmedy. It is great to see a "hands on" manager again.... More

We came here with a groupon for afternoon tea. If you frequently go for afternoon tea then this will disappoint - no choice of teas, small pot, it's from a bag, no refills. We had a lovely table by the window overlooking the river but they squeezed 3 of us onto a 2 seater table despite prebooking. This meant that... More

I have been here several times as I am fairly local and most of the time it has been fine. Unfortunately lunch service by the senior member of staff there this Sunday was one of the worst I have come across. The waiting staff were however very friendly and happy to help as much as they could. All the roast... More

We chose the Blue River for a joint birthday celebration Sunday lunch but we we're highly disappointed. We'd been told there was a problem with the carvery as soon as we arrived which we were fine with as they explained that we could have the meals delivered to the table. Sunday lunch should be hot though. 8 out of 9... More

Hugely disappointed. Carvery was not operational we had to wait 40 mins for 8 meals. The nineth was given to another table. The food was cold and the veg raw. Karen [---] the Manager was totally rude to me. She blamed the waitresses and kitchen staff openly. What an awful experience for bday celebrations for a group of 9. 9... More

There are very few carveries in the vicinity that are not part of large chains with a "mass produced" feel, This is an excellent carvery with an option on other main meals for the same price. Very friendly staff and face painting for the children. There was even entertainment in the form of a pianist/singer in the bar area. The... More

A friend and I had afternoon tea here. Lovely view from our table of the river. Sandwiches were a little dry around the edges, but scones and cakes were delicious. Staff were pleasant, polite and attentive. A small cake fork would have been nicer than the dinner fork on the table. But overall a good deal.

Visited with several colleagues. This restaurant is essentially pub food served sitting down. Very basic menu. The portion sizes are small for the amount charged. As it is basically a pub, you tend to get screaming kids. Not ideal for a 'restaurant'. They also sometimes have music. Which can be disturbing if dining. Finally despite having special menus / offers... More

The Blue River is a family friendly café , we attract a wide range of diners from many locations and from all walks of life, due to the idyllic location, overlooking the River Thames. We also offer an extensive a la carte or set menu, on Sunday a carvery is available, every Monday 50% off all food. I do hope... More

Great place to have a drink by the river as the view is amazing. When the sun is out it's nice to chill in the garden and watch the boats go by...
