Went in several times in December. Lovely old pub, with a fire in the bar, and friendly locals. Lucky enough that the bar wasn't too full each time we visited. Oh great beer too, definitely a place to visit when in Salisbury.

We chose The Haunch of Venison because of its pretty good reviews and convenience to the City centre. We must have caught them on a bad day. This was a family lunch, six people and we had made a reservation for 13:00. We were seated...More

Very old and interesting, Its one of those places you always remember going to and always want to go back to. That's not just because the building and its history is fascinating ( the staff will let you read about it if you ask) but...More

Bar areas looked very cosy - lots of small 'snug' type rooms. Meal in restaurant upstairs was good - fish and chips for one and slow cooked belly pork for two people. I asked for the supposed honey and mustard sauce to be served separtely...More

What an interesting pub! Quaint, unique and totally off the wall with historic connotations of ghosts and tales of local shenanigans that sitting in the bar you could imagine happening, you are already soaking up the atmosphere. Visit the snug ‘horse box’ and the higher...More

Stumbled accross this pub and were glad we did. Lets say that you would not get a coach party in the bar!! Very welcoming staff and locals. Enjoyed the ales(expensive but worth it) Food available upstairs.

Don't go here expecting exacting gourmet standards, but by all means do what we did on a cold day after a blustery trip to Stonehenge, and drop in for a drink and some rib-sticking grub. The building is fascinating, all beams and old fireplaces and...More

I love the pub but when I returned with my fiancé it wasn’t the warm welcome I remembered. Place was still loverly with the fore place lite but that was the only warming feature!

One of the city's most historic pub, and listed on CAMRA's National Inventory as one of the most historic interiors in the UK, The Haunch is packed with history, reputedly haunted by the ghost of the cheating card player, whose mummified hand is displayed in the upper 'House of Lords' Bar, with the snug 'Horsebox' allegedly the meeting place of Churchill and Eisenhower whilst planning the D-Day landings! With a spacious first floor restaurant, and a recent ownership change, The Merchant's House dining room on the first floor (entrance through pub) features a contemporary British menu specializing in local ingredients which include our famous venison casserole, superb selection of local meats and fish. Complemented with a specialist whiskey list, fine wine list and local hand - pulled real ales, as well as very friendly service, The Haunch is a definite 'must see' on your visit to Salisbury!
