We visited the Mandarin recently before a Theatre event as we had been here a few times before although not recently. It was early evening therefore daylight and you could see that it has been a while since the place was decorated and it all seemed a bit grubby and uncared for. The food was ok but nothing special and... More

Visited after a day spent perusing the shops. We arrived in time to sample the tea time special which in terms of price (£12.99 pp) I believe, you can't fault. My only issue is that there wasn't enough of it... Starters were OK although my hubby said one of his spare ribs was cold and then he had lemon chicken... More

Do not visit this restaurant, the food came cold, was greasy, and really unappetising, so bad we couldn't eat it, we weren't rude, we didn't ask for it to be replaced (not that that was even on the cards) and we even paid, but the waitress was unbelievably rude. I don't like to leave a negative review as I think... More

Been here a few times for the set lunch which is great value. As we have a Gourmet Society card we decided to visit on an evening and order from the menu as the offer is 25% off total bill. Ordered the usual courses - soup, appetisers, main course with rice and noodles. Drinks arrived quickly. Soup was lovely but... More

Went yesterday with 9 friends for Saturday lunch special. Food was fantastic, portions generous considering lunchtime special and the two ladies serving us were very polite and friendly. Couldn't fault the place

We went here at a day out in Newcastle. The interior is very beautiful and the staff served us very swiflty. I had the King Prawn chow mein dish with green peppers and black bean sauce, which was absolutely delicious. I certainly recommend this restaurant.

Hot and sour soup and Crispy aromatic Duck. One of the best dish i prefer the most and order every time when i visit here. The crispy duck served with the chef's special hoi sin sauce which make the duck taste much much better compare to other. And one of my another favourite was the beef black pepper sauce which... Very good. Great value on happy hour too. Service was quick. One table was drunk and loud but I don't know if this is the norm or not having only visited once

Thank Jack G

Newcastle's Mandarin Restaurant is easy to spot from the street, being colourfully fronted with greens, reds and gold in traditional Chinese style. The colours continue inside, creating a relaxed atmosphere of authenticity in which to enjoy your meal. As well as offering pre and post-theatre dinners, the Mandarin also has its famous banquets that offer dishes such as lamb with ginger and spring onions, king prawns in black bean sauce chilli and garlic fish - all for a fixed price; the Jade banquet costs £15 per person. The Mandarin uses fresh ingredients and is very popular locally.
