Generally very good food and a lovely place but you really need all three courses here as portions are small. The fish pie in particular was tiny. Food also arrives in such a hurry, people don’t like to be rushed.

Been before. We are local. This place should be killing it. Atmospheric monastery vibe. City centre( but coolly set aside). Good PR-destination venue. But hey. What a let down. Family Sunday lunch. No atmosphere. Apathetic and disorganised service. Food not available: “Sorry Just served last...More

Description
Blackfriars Restaurant in Newcastle is Britains oldest purpose-built restaurant, dating back to 1239 when it was used as a refectory by hungry monks. Luckily the food is a bit more modern, and the award-winning menu and historical surrounds have made this one of Newcastles most popular restaurants. Whether youre dining in the candlelit medieval banquet hall, the intimate dining room or the garden terrace, be sure to arrive early for a delicious cocktail at the bar. The menu never fails to impress, and favourite dishes include the wild rabbit stew with prunes, roasted almonds and Jerusalem pure and grilled scallops with roast pumpkin, French beans and beetroot coulis. Blackfriars Restaurant has an acclaimed wine list.
