The City Tavern is without doubt one of the most sumptuous pubs in Newcastle and an excellent pub to visit for a couple of drinks or a tasty meal. The City Tavern was established in 1923 on Northumberland road and is housed in an historic...Tudor façade building which looks very eye-catching. The inside is amazing with so many fixtures and features to many to list on a review on the TripAdvisor.Very chilled and very lively when we visited early in the evening with a superb atmosphere and friendly staff. When we came here we had already been to many pub's around the Byker district of Newcastle. When here we had an excellent Pale ale from Kelham Island brewery which were served in perfect condition and price wise on par with other pubs in Newcastle.I really liked this pub and would recommend visiting this superb pub and its very easy to locate from Haymarket metro stop its only a few minutes walk.(This is my first review of the City Tavern). Opening Hours. Monday-Sunday-12.00-22.00. Nearest Metro Stop. Haymarket metro stop.More

I spent a good few months organising a university function at the City Tavern. From the start, the staff have been amazing from catering to changing dates and numbers to looking after us on the day. The staff team working on the night were absolutely...incredible. Louis, Saf and Alice made our night extra special with their friendly service and wonderful conversation. As well as that, the food was absolutely delicious. Couldn't recommend a better venue for a function!More

We held our wedding reception here following a ceremony at Tyneside cinema. Despite the last minute booking due to Covid postponements/changes, Tom and the team were incredibly helpful and made the entire experience fantastic. We had a wonderful time and our guests thoroughly enjoyed the...venue and the food (the steak and ale pie was gone before we knew it!). The venue is beautiful and really made our day feel special. Special shout out for the wedding advice cards from the bar staff, they made us giggle when we got back from our mini-moon and made it even clearer that we picked the right venue. Would highly recommend for any function, they were wonderful!More

Held a post COVID wedding party here, organised at short notice after the restrictions were relaxed, and the guys here did an excellent job. Great choice of beer, excellent buffet and cool place to relax or party. Shout out to Louie, Lauren and Saf whe...kept the drinks flowing and couldn’t do enough to make it a great occasion. Choice location in the city centre, even the ladies suffering in their heels were able to nip out Primark for cheap flip flops! Kudos to the chef for a really great buffet, the focaccia was delish.More

The City Tavern in Newcastle upon Tyne is a venue that I’ve always enjoyed visiting since the late 1990’s, and over the years I’ve seen it in it’s various forms, guises and alternate names. I ventured in for a spot of lunch as a walk-in,...no need to reserve a table, although I was pretty lucky to get one downstairs as it was already busy with plenty of folk in for lunch. Received a very friendly and genuine greeting off the staff as I entered, then I ordered a myself a couple of 0% Heineken beers and grabbed myself a table. Opted to order the Classic Beef Burger (At a bargain £11.95) with some added bacon and an additional side of onion rings. Food came within good time, was beautifully presented and was hot & tasty, I couldn’t fault it. The City Tavern itself has great decor and character, the music played at a nice level which wouldn’t distract you from conversation, the service was second to none and the food was excellent, full marks! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I’d definitely recommend the City Tavern!More

Well from the outside it looks a quaint little pub. Inside an absolute delightful atmosphere and decor. Lovely comfortable seating. Very friendly staff. Male staff member was very attentive and pleasant, female server was lovely and also very attentive. Background music was low enough for...us to be able to chat easily. Drinks were quite expensive but when the food came out.....well my goodness!!! outstanding presentation for all four meals and amazingly fresh ingredients. I had pan fried seabass with salsa, veloute and fries. Absolutely amazing :) 1 friend had calamari with home made bread and I have to say it was the nicest most tender calamari I have tasted with a delightful homemade tartar sauce. Another friend had chicken tikka skewers. Moist chicken with a fennel dressing. Also ordered was the fishcake with a poached egg which was absolutely delicious, with a perfect poached egg. Very laid back ambience we never felt rushed. The place was spotless and staff sanitised all condiments after each use. The place was like a tardis, there was a second floor and outside seating. We will definitely be back here on our next catch up as former colleagues. And I already know what I am having as we have decided we need to try everything on this menu :)More
