Had the roast beef dinner. Large amount of veg but only 2 small roast potatoes which were cold. Yorkshire pudding was basically a scrunched-up mess and also extremely small. Looked nothing like any Yorkshire pudding I've ever had before. Beef was tough and stringy and...took some chewing. Had this meal before the lockdowns and it was bigger portions and better cooked. Shame that standards seem to have dropped. For nearly £14 this just isn't worth it.More

Amazing time for a family meal today. We had an incredible experience, staff bent over backwards to accommodate us in a very trying time with it being the first weekend open indoors. Absolutely fantastic food, can’t fault this place! Felt very secure and safe with...the covid regulations.More

Back to the City Tavern on the first day of Re-Opening. Nothings changed as far as the level of service and atmosphere are concerned. Still as excellent as ever. Waitress table service fast and friendly. Atmosphere chilled. Food (although didn't have any) looked superb as...always as I saw other guests being served. Looking forward to many afternoons and evenings here.More

Visited here a couple of times since easing of covid restrictions and though prices are steep the drinks are good, however after visiting today won’t be back ! The price of a pint of Moretti has increased from £5.25 to £5.65 in just over a...week? It’s not that your paying for the view (Primark) or the service which was average so I basically can’t see how these prices are justified?More

We haven’t put our prices up for over two years but could no longer absorb the supplier price increases anymore. The brewers prices have increased in percentage terms recently vastly more than our 40p price increase. You say you can’t see how these prices are...More

Short wait at the door, shown to a nice table at the side. Simple track and trace process. ( much better than messing with Apps) Not an extensive amount of draught beers on, the Tavern Brown is tasty. Service was good. We will be back...after the 17th May openings.More

Visited for lunch during the dreaded COVID restrictions, I must say the staff are all doing a great job. Yes it was a limited menu but we didn’t mind given the circumstances. Yes it started to rain we expected it we seen the forecast 😀....The city tavern could of stayed closed but they they chose to open with limited outside space and for that I am very grateful. They have worked tirelessly over the past few years and poured there heart and soul into this great place. I’ve always had excellent service. First class staff always friendly, smart and chatty.More

Amazing to see the staff at the tavern going above and beyond to make sure everyone is as dry as possible in what is horrible weather truly a monumental effort

City Tavern, I would not recommend this place at all unless you want to sit in the pub garden and get soaked by the rain water running off the make shift roof, tables seats gets flooded when its rains. We were so wet we had...to go to a local department store and buy new coats to come home with. The inadequate roof allowed the heavy rain to pour through into our drinks and food, the tables were swimming in water along with us getting a soaking even our handbags were filled with water. All the seating areas were the same. The food came in paper boxes with wooden cutlery and was disgusting. We couldn't finish the meal. When noting our disgust to the owner he became abusive and rude and made disability discriminatory comments against our disabilities and our age. The City Tavern also is asking customers to donate 2.00 to them as they are experiencing hardship. Insult as we had being treat appallingly.More

We’ve been expecting your review Margaret... You arrived yesterday and were seated at a table in our beer garden. Shortly after you arrived it began to rain so you moved to another table which, much like the first one, wasn’t completely undercover. You complained to...More

Tripadvisor gives idiot fukking people too much of a voice who know little to nothing about the hospitality industry. Seen a few cookery tv shows and everyone’s an effing pro! You all don’t have a clue man. Jumped up... More
