Not sure about this place at all, I have passed several times and always seems to be busy so I decide to try it, I just wanted a coffee and something light to eat so chose a toastie mainly because there wasn't a great deal of choice to be had. I know if it was because it was late afternoon... More

I treat myself to a Single lunch this week and was a by worried about sitting in my own! I walked past blakes and headed in. I found myself a table and ordered lunch and a few drinks and a cake. The staff were friendly and it was nice and clean with lots of window space to see the hustle... More

This place is a gold mine for sure. That said who ever owns it might not even read this, care or want to change anything. Firstly it need a bloody good clean! A fresh lick of paint too would make it look more appealing. Secondly tables!! Why is the huge tables in the middle of the room. So if 2... More

The restaurant was busy but the waitresses did not wipe the tables between customers .They felt very sticky. The cutlery was not clean dried food was on some items. Food was mediocre at best. Crisps with panini were soft. Not a memorable experience.

We stopped by for lunch on Saturday and found the cafe very busy. We stayed because we intended to visit a nearby shop after lunch. We chose a sandwich - which was ready made up behind the counter and was told it would be 30-40 mins before it was ready. I clarified that we were talking about the sandwich in... More

We had breakfast here as we stayed at the nearby Grey Street Hotel. I was enticed by the good north east favourite of a Stottie with breakfast inside. The bacon sauage and mushrooms were delicious, the large bap it wasin was also delicious, however I wouldnt call it a Stottie, Sorry to the owners of Blakes but it wasnt from... More

Blakes has a lovely atmosphere and the overall environment is perfect for anyone wanting to brunch or lunch. However, the breakfast I had was really not up to scratch - especially for the price. Ordered an Eggs Royal - the sauce was gloopy, the eggs were hard and it came on a bagel that literally would have required a hammer... More

Nice breakfast, but a little expensive for a fairly standard breakfast. Service was efficient, but not that engaging. Would be nice to have a few more smiles/chat, but the place was busy, so maybe too much to ask

We visited for breakfast as from the outside it looked promising. There was a lovely selection of sandwiches, toasties etc in the chiller ready for lunch but as it was only 10am we wanted breakfast. The guy taking our order wasn't overly friendly or particularly helpful. We both ordered scrambled egg thinking it would be served on Artisan bread like... More
