My first take away experience from The Great House Hotel & Restaurant was exceptional. Everything had been thought of right down to the packaging. Finer details such as using packaging of the highest quality to preserve the quality food within exudes class. The lobster roll...was no ordinary take away meal. The finest quality, fresh ingredients were used. The food was at the perfect temperature and every mouthful was a taste sensation that I never wanted to end. Presentation was a delight on the eye too. The fries were crisp and absolutely delicious. Opening the box of the dessert, All Chocolate Tartelette, took my breath away. A delicate work of art that had been carefully placed in the packaging to ensure it remained intact and did not move in transport. It’s the finer details in everything these chefs do that make all the difference. The pastry was delicate and crisp, the mirror glaze topping showed exceptional skill and the chocolate ganache filling was the lightest I had ever tasted yet had perfect intensity of flavour and the chocolate sauce sublime. I cannot wait for next Friday. I defy anyone to call this take away meal anything but exceptional on all levelsMore

We stayed for a night in the Versailles room and had the tasting menu for dinner. The staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for you, really good service. We were happy we went with the tasting menu, they asked if there was anything you...didn't like/couldn't have and adjusted it to you. All of it was really lovely. The room itself was super spacious and lots of character with all the things you would need provided. We came here to celebrate our engagement and it definitely felt special. Looking forward to coming back, thank you for a lovely stay.More

We were forced to cancel our holiday to France this year but our overnight stay at The Great House, with dinner and breakfast, although short, gave us a wonderful taste of our favourite country. We opted to stay overnight and our room was delightful -...spacious, characterful and very welcoming. It came complete with a decanter of sherry and a bowl of fresh fruit. Dinner was incredible - one of the best meals we've had in this country. We opted for the Experience Menu with the wine flight and every course was a delight of textures and flavours whilst service was efficient, courteous and professional. A superb establishment in all respects and we can't wait to return!More

Unfortunately I failed to get photos. Mainly this was because it was date night and I don't want to get the camera out bit also because the food was so exquisite and we were starving! I'll try to do justice with words but know I...will not be able to. So firstly the booking experience. Booked online with the email system asking for a time and date. It was short notice so I wasn't surprised to get a phone call saying it was unavailable but very happy to have a very pleasant Lady find a spot that worked on the Friday instead of the Saturday. Zero issues and very easy. Much better than other booking systems I've used that may be quicker but less personable. Another lovely call on the Friday to confirm attendance. Not a problem. No shows can break a place so I am very happy with this. Covid rules were explained and on reaching the Great House it was very covid secure. Swiped the NHS app on the way in, masks on to the table, staff wear masks at all times. Tables nicely spread apart. All good We went for the standard menu as first time and as I was driving I didn't want to hit the tasting menus and wines! That's a treat for later. Excellent attention from the front of house team. Superbly led by a young man whose name I failed to get to my shame. But we were not disappointed at any time by the service. Superb. We order a glass of Resiling each and it was delightful. Sparkling water was also very nice. And a decent price. No hidden charges here. Starters were pate en croute for me and butternut squash for her. I'm not doing justice here. In fact I can't. My paye en croute was masterful. Layers of taste exploded in my mouth. Seasoned to perfection. Visually beautiful. The sighs of appreciation from Karen evidently showed she was enjoying the same experience from her dish. We followed with cod and pork belly. Again I will fail to describe the visually beautiful plate set up and tastes. Levels of flavour and texture artfully woven together to give each mouthful and intensity of deliciousness. We explored the sweet menu with chocolate being chaoen by each of her. Intensity for her with a mix of delightful meringue and ganaches and for me the praline. This attracted a £3 surcharge but it is worth every penny. The plate set up was a masterpiece. I salute to the person who played up and to the person who made the food. My god it was delicious. Coffee followed and again great pleasantries with front of house who told us of up coming events but no hard sale. So I heartily recommend the Great House for food. We were made to feel welcome and greeted as old friends. Thank you all for the perfect evening. I believe the two chefs are just 25 years old. I have no idea where they trained or who under but I have no doubt their first Michelin star ⭐ is not too far away. Their food and set up was easily on par with other establishments I've frequented that have a michelin star. So I wish you all the best and hope soon you are formally recognised. Thanks for a great evening. Stuart & KarenMore

I've been dining at The Great House once a year for the past 20 years so, have seen the good, bad and indifferent (but overall, 99% good). Today I had the most amazing lunch and, I can honestly say that the food, service and ambience...were the best ever. The entire team are totally at the top of their game. The food is indescribably brilliant and delivered with an understated level of amazing service. Lavenham is so lucky to have such an establishment. My biggest concern is that when they do become Michilen recognised, it won't be possible to get a table!More

Lunch was lovely, think I missed a sauce on my fish but that’s by the by. Dessert was INCREDIBLE! Reasonably priced for such service. C’est magnifique! Merci beaucoup

We were so fortunate to book a 2 night stay with dinner & breakfast with our two children ( pre teen and teen) as it now transpires, right before this second lockdown. The whole experience was welcoming from booking to arrival and beyond. The Great...House is historic, with understated modern decor and luxurious. We stayed In the Elysee room which was spacious warm and comfortable for the 4 of us to hang out in, with nice bathrobes, toiletries, nespresso machine, Sherry, tea infusions available. We are a family of foodies, so we all enjoyed the food from the a la carte menu, the lamb main, saffron dessert and seaweed butter were highlights. The extra touches were also appreciated. The kids enjoyed the mousse served with the petit fours and would happily see a bigger portion featured on the dessert menu! The house toffee was yum. On the second night we opted for chef’s creative Experience Menu, highly recommended for some food fun. The continental breakfast was satisfying, the dulce de leche, fig jam & rhubarb & violet jam were favourites as was the generous cheese plate and salami. 2020 has been a crazy year, so it was good to experience good hospitality and fine dining from Elizabeth, Antoine and the young team in a location where you can wander off the beaten track away from the crowds. Everyone was friendly and professional and made us feel safe by complying with covid rules, hand sanitising, thorough cleaning etc Do book ahead and treat yourself to a break here if you want a nice stay, creative food and a bit of pampering in a quaint and quirky little town.More

They have off road parking. But I can't vouch for how secure it is. I would not worry very much.

There are vegetarian choices which I saw to be very nice. The owners do seem approachable so maybe a call will help the situation. My experience of the restaurant was that nothing is too much trouble.
