My husband and I had dinner here on 27th April. The welcome was prompt and warm and we were shown to a good table (half by the window, so a good view over the square for me!). We decided to go for the set menu (available until 7.30 on weekday evenings) - 2 choices for each course - £12 for... More

My first visit to the Angel in a couple of years. The food was delicious with excellent service especially from the French gentleman. Looking forward to visiting again.

Great service and tasty food but set menu and portion size get smaller every time we go. We first ate there 7 years ago and became regulars but we shan't bother again. Judging by the lack of other diners, maybe the poor value for money is becoming apparent. This used to be my favourite restaurant in Bury St. Edmunds. Shame.

Great hotel. Restaurant is trying to be be creative; but way too complicate. Was better years before when it was simple, but excellent.

Have been a regular to the angel for about ten years have seen some highs and some lows but our visit last night was our third exceptional visit this year. The staff were friendly, attentive and knowledgable. Throughout the meal our water jug was refilled regularly and our wine was kept topped up. We were given good advice regarding the... More

I in error placed my food review on the hotel part and not on the restaurant side. It still does not change my views but please read my review on the hotel site.

The restaurant was quite cold, with an icy blast coming through every time the outside door was opened. The two veggie dishes were just ok - nothing exceptional, to say the least. Steak was cooked as requested but the accompanying chips were dry and lacked flavour - tasting much like the Wetherspoons' offering. The two pork tenderloin dishes were very... More

My wife treated me to lunch out for my birthday. Service was excellent from the start, nothing too much trouble, happy to answer questions and make recommendations. Weren't kept waiting at all, attentive service, especially when I knocked my drink over, could have been more helpful. The food was superb. I had venison tartare to start, followed by the steak... Visited The Angel for afternoon tea for the first time and it was very pleasant. A cold winters day outside , but we had a lovely table by a log fire. The food was very nice , so much we couldn't eat it all , but the friendly waitress provided us with a box to take surplus cakes home. One... More

Description
The Angel Eaterie has many admirers and is a popular destination for Suffolk locals. The art filled dining room providing a gallery for the creative talents of the kitchen. The dishes are modern and predominantly British but, the Head Chef continually surprises with a curious twist of something deliciously different. Fresh local produce is sourced from surrounding market gardeners and pheasant, venison or fish will always depend on what's available for the menu that day. The breads baked in house are testament to the care taken to achieve that special taste; dip into the olive oil then take your pick of the 30 varieties of quality wines all served by the glass and wait for further temptations. The Angel Eaterie is open all day for food & drink.
