I enjoyed a main meal at lunchtime during the Easter holidays with my parents and my toddler daughter. The food was really tasty and fresh cooked . The menu offers many original choices as well as classic favourites. The setting is nice with extra seating upstairs . The staff are great; they are always very friendly and there is a... More

As a regular customer I find the coffee is excellent ( i have tried so many café coffee's ). As I require a special dietary needs it is always a good idea to let the chef/ head waitress know. Great atmosphere / very friendly staff.

We visited the Bay Tree last Saturday for a bit of a late lunch, had two hungry children with us as well which is always unnerving but we were pleased to find a friendly welcome and they directed us to some books and colouring bits for the children which really did the trick in keeping them amused! We thought it... More

This was our first visit to the Bay Tree and we'll certainly be heading back. The daily special of fresh salmon on kale risotto was beyond delicious and the roasted vegetable panini was just as tasty. The large panini also came with a generously sized salad that we all ended up helping our friend finish! Great friendly service and a... More

My friend and I meet at the Bay Tree on a regularly basis. We are always welcomed as old friends. The service is quick, the food is really tasty and the staff are very friendly. I took my daughter for lunch and mentioned it was her birthday. At the end of the meal a small birthday cake was presented to... More

We went to the Bay Tree on a busy Saturday afternoon on February 18 to grab a late lunch. We very nearly couldn't get in and were told as much by a server who made no effort to see if there might be any tables about to be free. This was the first warning. In any case, someone about to... More

Good food, friendly staff. Our third visit as we have always been made to feel welcome and treated as individuals not a commodity.

Went to the Bay Tree again and this time disappointed. Our order for tea for two, a steak and onion panini, and a Brie and grape sandwich was taken and our tea arrived promptly. However we had to wait for 40 minutes for our food, we did have to chase them up which did have an effect. The sandwich was... More

The Bay Tree Cafe Bistro has been an integral part of St Johns Street, one the loveliest areas in Bury St Edmunds, for more than 15 years.

Being one the oldest buildings in the street we have been careful not go overboard with modernisation by keeping the interior subtle and furniture simple to offer a balance of cosy cafe and with a hint of modern bistro. With dining rooms on both the ground and first floors it is deceptively larger that it first appears.

Our hope is that the Bay Tree's menus offer something for everyone; vegetarian dishes, dishes suitable for special diets and child portions.
