There were a number of groups and so it was quite difficult to hear. The portions were on the small side. My lamb and couscous dish was not very nice the meat seemed rather flaccid and so was expensive for the quality of the food.

Went here during a bank holiday weekend getaway, and was not disappointed. Nestled down a country lane situated right on the River it is a gorgeous location for a restaurant of this quality. Staff were very attentive and friendly without being overbearing. Food and wine...More

Each and every time I've been here the food is absolutely amazing! To be fair they are small portions and it is expensive, but the flavours are outstanding and it's all cooked to perfection. Unfortunately every time I've been here the service is at a...More

We were given a beautiful litte almost private table overlooking the dad fowing river where we enjoyed the most delicious inspiring beautifully presented food. Gorgeous. Fabulous choice and faultless service from very warm friendly staff.

Our delicious three course dinner (with local Oxfordshire wine) was a highlight of our trip to Oxford - and thoroughly reasonably priced. Well worth making the short journey outside of the city centre to dine here.

Yeeeahas. I speak with that bored drawl - at once superior and patronising - of the North Oxford intelligentsia. This place is a must, for the moneyed hypocrite - the Remain voters who hate oiks and wants to flash some cash. "Me Too" campaigners are...More

We booked the Boathouse for my mum's 70th, and right from the outset, I was really impressed with the speed and clarity of communication about our booking. The management handled numerous unforeseen changes to the booking without any problem. The experience on the day was...More

My title says it all really. Given the prices charged here, it really should be better. The location is wonderful so I feel quite sad that the offering here fails so badly to live up to the the charming restaurant and views. Feels like the...More

I have been here the last time approximately 10 years ago. I love the location, the interior and the menu. But the best is the distinguished wine list. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Oxford. As soon as I come back to Oxford,...More

I went here for a late lunch on Mother's Day with a few friends - I was intrigued to try it out having read some mixed reviews. I didn't have a starter - they all looked ok apart from the soup which was an unbelievably...More

Trousers and shirt would definitely be ok whereas I’m not sure about jeans. Would have been fine when I went at lunch time but I think in the evening it would be smarter.

You've planned an afternoon punting a la Sebastian Flyte - you've got the boater, the stripy blazer, the wind-up gramophone and the obligatory teddy bear, but whoops, forgotten the picnic. Instead of eating sweaty sandwiches, plan your punting excursion round eating at Cherwell Boathouse. Owned and run by the same family for the past 30 years, Cherwell Boathouse, as its name suggests is right on the banks of the Isis (Oxford speak for the Thames) in a truly scenic spot. The restaurant is small and intimate with a beautiful terrace but not twee. The atmosphere is buzzy and lively and there is a huge range of age groups. However, if you are truly set on a picnic, the restaurant will organise a hamper for a minimum of 15 people if you pre-order. What's cooking: Fish Terrine with a light crab mayo; fragrant Thai broth, crispy sea bream with courgette and carrot tagliatelle on a bed of noodles with a tomato and caper jus; baked breast of mallard with a cranberry compote; white chocolate and ginger torte; chocolate layered crepe cake.
