Visited with a group of work colleagues after our Xmas meal on a busy Friday evening. Whilst busy we were able to get seats and most importantly we could actually hear the conversation, ie, not a loud/noisy pub. Bar staff very friendly and know what they were doing.

Nice beer and wine but £8.50 for a santini tomato salad with only one tomato in it is a bit of a joke. At the Nosebag, our normal haunt for such things, we get much more for much less. Mentioned this to a member of staff but she was unmoved.

Myself and a group of friends get together every December for a festive dreink or two and this year we plumped for the St Aldates Tavern. And we are mighty glad we did! We had exclusive use of the upstairs function room and were very well looked after. Great food, great beer and helpful and attentive staff. We couldn't ask... More

My mum & I stopped in here for a bite to eat & a mulled wine to rest before doing some more shopping. The pub was quiet, with just a few people at the bar. We ordered a couple of mulled wines, soft drinks & a soup & a sausage & onion sandwich. The young man behind the bar presented... More

Having never been in but always walked past thinking it looked a nice setting i was not disappointed. The upstairs room had been booked out and was a lovely soave with its own bar for us to let our hair down. The cold buffet was a good mix of fish and meat but a bit light on vegetarian options. There... More

Hi Alison, Many thanks for the review and always happy to hear that you had a good time with us. Apologies for not having enough vegetarian options- we do have a range of items on the menu but don't believe that all the veggie options were chosen for the evening. As for the lack of cutlery, that does sound a... More

I'm so sorry to have to write such a negative review about the experience I personally had as part of a large group booking for Christmas lunch last Friday. To be clear, this is about my experience, not the experience of the group, although I know others were less than satisfied. We arrived at 2pm and were seated in the... More

Hi Becky, I am so sorry to hear about your experience with us. We did check with the organiser if everyone was happy with the proceedings of the day and the response we got back was positive. Christmas lunch for 40 people served with a smile in the Blue Room. Food was great, staff were great, atmosphere was brilliant. Only slight gripe was having to wait for the barman on occasion. All in all, will definitely do it again.

Visited this evening with friends , good atmosphere and good range of beers . Unfortunately the experience was cut short as there was no warning about last orders or even a sign about closing times. The first we were aware that we could not have another drink was by a grumpy manager sat at the end of the bar .... More

Hi Couchandcath, Thanks for the review of St Aldates and to start with happy that you enjoyed the atmosphere and range of beers. I am however, unhappy with the way the evening ended for you. A breakdown in communication is no excuse but I have spoken to the closing manager that evening and explained why it is important to go... More

Popped into St Aldates whilst out shopping in Oxford on Saturday. A little gem of a traditional English pub. Great food and atmosphere and the staff were brilliant suggesting a local ale for my husband to taste. Will definitely visit again.
