It is a long time since we sat in what felt like a traditional pub. We were surrounded by locals yet made to feel very welcome. The simple sandwich lunch was excellent value, as was the wine. Thank you.

Having previously enjoyed our visits we decided to take a group of family to experience the hospitality of a traditional Oxford pub and the beer was as good as ever. We weren't in a rush, so when the food took a while to arrive we weren't concerned; but when the wait was more than an hour we began to be... More

Warm and welcoming in the winter with good fire in the back. Never any good beer. Great old pub. Not as charming or touristy as the one across the road. Beer mediocre as with rival opposite.

I went there with a friend last Friday. I found this place quite cozy and reasonably busy with a decent public! I had one of their standard ales which was great even for a person who does not really like ales that much. Surprisingly they offer a great selection of Belgian Beer too! It's worth a visit..

I came in here for a pint and I was not disappointed. They have some great real ales on tap which is always good. They don't accept card here so make sure you have cash. The service here is good, the staff are friendly and polite. The 'Lamb & Flag ale' is a good pint. Definitely worth a visit.

Of course it's owned/run by St. John's College, but really it has to do better because of that fact alone and for the price of the beer. Staff generally know the beer and are by and large polite, but the chap with the glasses and beard (the bar manager, I think) could be a bit more courteous and polite -... More

A cheesy jacket with generous side salad might be just what you need when you've nearly broken your jaw on fancier menus' tough sourdoughs. Cute little nooks throughout. Would have been better if the fire had been lit.

A real beer lovers pub with wide selection of well-kept real ales. Knowledgable bar staff, good pork scratching and an open fire. What more could you want? Oh yes... the pub is owned by St Johns college so the profits go to support DPhil students!
