The dining room is looking a bit dated and to say that food is not as good as it used to be is an understatement. One of our party sent back their fish and chips (which should be a good and easy dish on the menu) because the fish was old and overcooked. It's seen better times.

Back yard nice but picnic tables bit uncomfortable. Food good. Table service with pleasant staff. Old Headington so beautiful. A good place to visit but not my number one place

We didn't get shown to a table and got served at the bar. Our stale bread arrived on the bar and sat there for another 5 minutes till we mentioned it to the waitress. That was a waste of time!!! Our burgers came which were nice but not life changing and the salad was below average. During our meal we... More

I've eaten here several times and each time the food has been top-notch. Quite expensive but worth it for a special occasion.

My friends and I were booked into another pub for a meal but were turned away as the kitchen was closed. We went across to the Black Boy instead and were so glad we did. The food was excellent. I had a burger, not something I normally eat. It was very tasty. Would definitely recommend

My family and I went for Sunday lunch and found the whole experience a bit lacking really. The staff were nice enough and the decor of the place is lovely, the main problem was the lack atmosphere. It just felt cold and dull. There were plenty of patrons but the place was boring. And the food was a bit hit... More

Having checked the menu online before booking, we were delighted to see such an array of veggie and fish dishes. We thought 'At last! Someone who takes veggie seriously.' Sadly, while there were quite a few options, the halloumi burger was extremely average and the fish and chips were served on a too small board (yawn) and the fish was... More
