Good venue for a country pub atmosphere. Delicious mulled cider and the food is very good. Not entirely sure why it has a bouncer because it attracts a very tame audience. At some point during the week it has live music (I think it was a Sunday) - way too loud and not great so we left promptly.

We visited having looked on Google for somewhere to eat before going to the Derngate. What attracted us was the number of real ales available. The pub itself looks like it should be bigger inside than it actually is but it's cosy with lots of character. The menu isn't extensive but there is something for most tastes. We had the... More

Our visit to Northampton wouldn't be complete without lunch and chose this pub for good food and space to eat. Popular with locals but clean and friendly staff. Pity about the choice of piped music rather loud and not to our taste but the food was excellent.

Great beer, food not so good. Ordered at 6pm the food didn't reach the table instil 6.50, no explanation given. My wife's fish was good but although my steak was good the wooden platter was covered in salad with only a small salty mushroom and no veg. Chips were dry and indigestible. It wasn't cheap. Somewhere else next time. Pity!

If you like real ale this is for you. They serve a fantastic range of beers, cider and a good selection of wine. Snacks like a beef sandwich are like a main meal and very satisfying and filling. Limited choice of main meals, but what they serve up is excellent.

Burger was chewy and grainy. And for £10 I expect good meat. Buy I was too hungry to complain. Sides were nice and I ate the green vegetables off my partners pie which was small but nice.

This is the go to bar in Northampton for the over 25s. The service is excellent, with a clean and tidy bar and garden. The food is of a high standard with a decent selection. I've never seen any trouble in this bar and they have lots of bands and screens for entertainment. The garden has lots of heaters and... More

Few friends after work some their first visit. Sat outside and every table had an ashtray??? Not impressed, even ashtrays by the door so we could not escape!

Have been drinking here for over 8 years. Very pleasant place, good range of real ales, beers and ciders, good crowd of people, tend to be the over 25s set which suits me fine.

Totally overpriced pub food masquerading as an upmarket gastropub. Very cramped the landlord complained I was using his electric for my lap top, and encouraged me to buy more drinks, to fill hiz coffers ... They have improved since I fell down the draymans entrance breaking my radius, but are still the unglazed face of rampant capitalism. They go for... More

I believe your review has maybe been written for the wrong public House. We do not have a Landlord but a Landlady who has been with us many years running the Wig & Pen. We always encourge and advertise facilities for wi-fi usage for our customers so would not complain about electric use. No-one has every fell down our draymans... More
