Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Popped in between pubs, and asked the lovely lady behind the counter what the vegan options were. There wasn’t much (sadly), but she offered a vegan roll. I looked at it, and wasn’t sure at all, but I was hungry so I took it. Finished...my pint in the pub over the road and headed back in to say how amazing it was. Poor woman said she noticed I wasn’t sure and was worried I wouldn’t like it. She had no reason to worry. It was absolutely amazing. Super friendly staff. Thoroughly recommend!More

Called here this Morning, hoping to pick up some “bits” for a stay home meal, after a very disappointing night out. What can I say, the young Lady who served us was delightful. Recommended somewhere for Lunch ( The Rusty Shears) and was so helpful...and informative. She offered to prepare one of their deli boxes for us and we called back later to collect. At £35 it was excellent value for money and fed 3 of us with plenty left over. A great selection of meats, cheeses and deli delights. We also bought a side of avocado and cashew nut pate, which was absolutely divine. I really can’t recommend this place highly enough. If you’re staying in self catering accommodation in Whitby, give the night life a miss and go here!!More

I wish the Whitby Deli was still a cafe, it was always one of my favourite places to eat, and the coffee was excellent. Still a few seats in the window, and the coffee is still as good. Plenty of nice snacks, and it's actually...a very good deli, so have a look around.More

We had been a customer of Whitby Deli for years and spent a great deal of money in there. The staff were always friendly and helpful and it was a pleasure to go in. Due to covid and moving house, we had not been in...for over two years. When we paid a visit recently we called in for coffee and to redeem two free coffees and a free lunch which we had saved up over the years in loyalty cards. They said they no longer did lunches and at first refused to give us the two free coffees saying only one could be used per transaction. My husband volunteered to leave the shop and come in as a separate customer so in the end they reluctantly agreed. Throughout the process, they were grumpy and unhelpful. They stated that the cards looked old (who cares, we had saved up and bought many coffees and lunches over the years and the company had not changed hands) and they acted entirely put-out. The coffee itself was a bitter disappointment. It was much weaker than it used to be and my little boy's babychino, was simply steamed milk. No chocolate dusting. Nothing. It is fair to say we shall not return.More

We ate here at one of their 'Deli Plate' Sat evenings & it was delicious & unbelievably good value. The house red was very nice & very reasonably priced. The lady working was very friendly & happy to answer any questions about the various cheeses,...meats etc. We also bought things for lunch here another day and the sausage rolls were amazing. Highly recommended.More

This is a true gem, wonderful food and lovely staff. We had a Friday night takeaway to heat at home, beef bourginion with pomme dauphinois followed by raspberry cheesecake. The bourginion was delicious and packed full of meat. The dauphinois smelled amazing from the second...I put it in the oven. The cheesecake was delicious, my only complaint being that it was slightly grainy. We also bought a fantastic selection of cheeses, some recommended by the lovely staff, they were all high quality and delicious abs we devoured them very greedily.More

Found this lovely place whilst ambling around Whitby. Every item that we ordered and eventually ate were superb, a special mention must go to the sausage rolls that were probably the nicest I've ever tasted. A bottle of Whitby deli branded shiraz also washed everything...down really well. Awesome deli and one that is certainly worth seeking out.More

Popped into the Deli for some cold table Friday evening treats. I was met by the dynamic duo that is Hey Jude and Kaz. Gave me lots of ideas, tasted things I wasn’t sure about. Very knowledgeable and helpful. HJ recommended the delis own Shiraz,...as I’m dinking it now I can say great choice. Meanwhile Kaz made a list for me of eateries in and around Whitby that the ladies would recommend . A very enjoyable visit indeed, thank you HJ and Kaz.More

We went to the Deli to buy lunch for 5 of us therefore would have been a decent spend. Entered the store; no other customers and 2 behind the counter (1 x young and 1 x older), busy doing various things. Stood there for about...1 min without any eye contact or acknowledgement from either although they spoke to each other. I don't mind waiting if told 'will be with you in a minute' but we were clearly invisible and not worth the effort. Walked out and bought lunch from Bothams where the service is superb. Reading an earlier comment, I'm glad the owner of the deli is doing well; she clearly is able to pick and choose her customers!More

This week we are staying in Whitby and after going to the Whitby deli earlier in the week for a couple of bits we wanted to do a special lunch for my mother’s 60th. We’d picked a couple of things from the shelves and then...headed to the deli counter. The young lady that had served us seemed really helpful but the older lady was butting in, and interrupting, being rather sharp and brash. We ordered a couple of things from the deli and then moved onto ordering the cheese. The cheese I had picked was rather expensive and I asked to put the cheese back and was going to move on to the ordering some deli meats. It was at this point the older woman became very nasty and patronising and told us to “go to the supermarket instead” while turning her nose up at us. Which at that point I politely told her, that level of customer service isn’t acceptable. It’s my mother’s 60th we were going to buy lost from that shop and instead her reply was “i don’t care, it’s my business and I’m doing rather well thank you.” To which I put all the items down and told her we wouldn’t we spending a single penny in the shop. Instead we went literally across the road to bothams and spent our money there. Everyone in the bothams bakery was helpful, friendly and seemed to care about their customers. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY, AND DONT FALL VICTIM TO VILE SNOBBERY.More

Not just a deli but a showcase of great taste sourced from local suppliers and farther afield. Sample charcuterie and cured meats, the finest oils and vinegars, terrific cheeses alongside fabulous baking, jams and chutneys. We've already visited a couple of times for picnic ingredients;...a stunning York ham sandwich with indescribably good pickle; a sausage roll filled to the brim; amazing scotch egg with a runny yolk; simply brilliant Glaisdale pork pie. Catherine Cook was the inspiration behind this venture a few years ago and it's clearly gone from strength to strength. I'm sure her support of local producers throughout such testing times must have been hugely appreciated. Highly recommended.More
