What a superb Afternoon Tea. The scones were the best we've ever tasted. The lemon posset was tart and beautiful and the sandwiches were fresh and fillings very tasty. Background music was unobtrusive and pleasant. We all had coffee rather than tea and it was very good too. The only downside was the lack of interest shown by the staff.... More

An excellent afternoon tea enjoyed this afternoon at The Assembly House. All seven of us enjoyed the delicious cakes, tea and scones. The service was very good.

Was our first visit to the assembly house under the control of Richard Hughes The food was overall very good Only slight disappointment was that the plates were not very hot so the food cooled very quickly The service at the table was good but first impression are everything and the staff who meet us at the reception was not... Absolutely fantastic! Loved the sandwiches, 2 scones each and a great selection of cakes. 20+ teas to choose from. The service was great and setting was beautiful. Will definitely return, next time for lunch.

This was a treat for my birthday before going to the Theatre, my daughter had booked and we were shown to a beautiful room with chandeliers and big oil paintings. It was very busy but the staff made us feel very well looked after, and supplied us with our fabulous cream tea, the scones were warm and served when we... More

Had lunch here before going to the theatre. My husband had the chowder which he pronounced was 'bland' and I had the Caesar Salad. It was OK but nothing special. What really let it down was the absolutely vast amount of huge croutons, the size of sugar cubes. They were very difficult to eat and tasted as if they had... More

New owners are probably no longer so interested in the pre theatre visitor and was certainly quite empty when we visited. The set menu was rather poor and extras inc bread are all now chargeable - no wine included offers anymore. But it was the delays in getting drinks (we were due at theatre as they knew) and staff attitudes... More

I went here for a birthday treat (sadly not my birthday!) and was blown away by how scrumptious their gluten-free offering was. Whilst the service was a little slow, and we waited some time for our table, the decor was lovely, and I was pleasantly surprised by the generosity of the food. I had my own gluten free stand, which... More

Was disappointed with menu and there was something lacking about the atmosphere also even though there were several tables taken. It was a lunchtime but I found the menu somewhat uninteresting and lacking. many people seemed to be favouring the afternoon tea. Sorry but it really didn't grab me
