tasty south american recipes at affordable price. place is being refurbished but still in line with the previous industrial/craft style. walkable from the crowded London Bridge area if you are seeking a quiet escape.

This is my first visit to El Vergel since they downsized (by about 75%, I estimate). The whole experience is cosier, but the staff are still friendly and the menu the same as it was. The soup of the day (spinach) was hearty and the bean stew (with or without pork) filling and warming on a chilly Spring day.

Simple cafe food good for breakfast, brunch and lunch. tortillas empanadas with a fusion of mediteranian flavours.

The place is very relaxing with open spaces and big tables. They have a live kitchen in front of the tables, and it is nice to see the cooks preparing your food. The food is quite nice but not too sophisticated, the prices not too high. I paid about GBP7 for the day's special (rice, salad and meat). You can... More

I have only been there for breakfast - quality is good, relaxed atmosphere. Unfortunately is closed on Sundays and week nights. Good option for lunch breaks though.

Sometimes have it as Takeaway it is a great choice. I have tried other dishes but I will always return to my favourite.

Went for a late lunch by myself. Walked in to be greeted by a grumpy looking waitress. Took a seat, only to be told I had to move to another table. The restaurant was entirely empty, so presumably this was just so it was easier for them to serve me?! Looked at the menu, then tried to get someones attention... More

I love South American food, so living locally I was really happy to spot El Vergel. The decor is outstanding and quirky. The staff unfortunately, seem to be lost, chaotic and don't know what's available what's not (3 times I had to change my order as when everyone in my group got the food the waitress told me that the... I have just popped in to grab some lunch and perhaps dinner for 3 tonight. The service was unfriendly, unenthusiastic and I made to feel as if they are doing me a favour by selling me food? I ordered a haloumi cheese salad, that is exactly what it is, two slices of haloumi on top of lettuce sliced cucumber, raw... More

A bit of a strange one. This restaurant is very casual, you wander in, sit where you like (including, I think, communal tables), pick your cutlery from a pot in the middle of the room and wait for a menu. The menus are paper, crumpled, stained and everything looks a little tired. But the food was surprisingly good. It is... More
