Recently arrived back in London, we set out in search of a decent breakfast on a Sunday. Village East certainly looks the part and to be fair the staff were pretty great too. Our major hang up though, is going anywhere for breakfast and leaving...More

Lovely evening at Village East. They managed to find us a spot at the bar for food and the atmosphere was great. Special mention to Karen the waitress for exceptional service and a great recommendation on the wine.

Such great service from Karen! Knowledgable and great fun. Knew the menu and recommended some amazing dishes. Awesome food!! Wine tasters were provided and then cocktails; of which the Chocolate Old Fashioned was the cream of the crop. Rage against the machine kept us going.

Food was really good but the service was patchy at best. 15 mins to get the bottle of wine we ordered and significant delays on both courses. If someone told me they had booked it for another meal I wouldn't say no but certainly wouldn't...More

Good food with great service! Karin was amazing and recommended the best wine for the food. Even though we arrive a little late the service was class.

We have eaten here before, and at last had an opportunity to revisit as we had enjoyed our first experience. Interesting menu presented within Industrial chic surroundings. This visit was on a very busy Sunday evening on a Bank Holiday weekend. Despite staff shortages, the...More

Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard,
the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond
any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some

browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street,
foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old
foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks
of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest

This is actually pretty good. However "The Garrison" is a firm favourite for quirky. The decor is unique - check the drawers in your table - and the food tasty.

Village East restaurant in chic south London enclave Bermondsey Street is designed to call to mind a hip East Village establishment in Manhattan. It sprawls through a listed warehouse and glass-fronted apartment building and is decorated in polished concrete, rough wooden pillars, striking curved white chairs, and a wide open kitchen. Sit back and enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine while watching chefs hard at work creating the modern eclectic dishes that make up the Village East menu. In laymans terms, this means European flavours and techniques are coupled with South East Asian influences, resulting in some intriguing combinations. We had our eye on the seared scallops and caramelised pork belly with carrot puree and teriyaki glaze; and the West Cork beef burger with sauteed foie gras, caramelised onion, jumbo gherkin and chips, but if youre more in the mood for a steak, or fish and chips, theres plenty of that on offer too.
