Visited here with some friends at lunchtime for a special occasion. From the doorman greeting to the old world surroundings it is very plush! It states that the food served is traditional and I would certainly agree with this. The starter course of crab on...More

What's not to love about this place. From the moment you walk in until the moment you leave it is such a wonderful experience. The staff are all so attentive without being over bearing. Go upstairs first for a great cocktail. The decor is English...More

This place has been around since 18 Century. The welcome is polite as is the service throughout. The decor is period, formal, lacking either warmth or charm. Tables are rather small and too close together. Toilet on first floor, no disabled access I could find....More

Traditional British food at its very best, service was impeccable, wine list is amazing, a venue for those special occasions as good food and excellent service does not come cheap, but what a memorable experience, will definitely visit when l am next in London

I think 45 minutes passed between ordering and receiving the grouse. But it was excellent. Gorgeous place too.

We love this restaurant. Visit Rules every 2-3 years and not disappointed. Traditional British food with an emphasis on game. Excellent service and a good wine list. We enjoyed a drink in the lovely cocktail bar before the meal. My wife had the steak and...More

Description
Established by Thomas Rule in 1798, Rules is a Covent Garden institution and the oldest restaurant in London. Tuxedoed waiters glide around the formal interior, decorated with antique sketches, where plush banquettes offer a discreet retreat from the main dining room. The whole-hearted menu of traditional British food specialises in classic game cookery, oysters, pies and puddings, featuring game birds, roe deer and Belted Galloway beef fresh from the establishment's own High Pennines estate. The wine list is a French-led affair, or there are native draught beers served in silver tankards.
