We searched this place out as we love artisan bakeries and we are members of the Real Bread Campaign, ( I bake sourdough bread). Superb quality!! I had a halloumi bun and my husband had mushroom and leek on sourdough toast. Delicious!!! The coffee was great too. We bought a multigrain loaf to take away and that too was superb quality, if a little expensive. Come here you won’t regret it!!!

We visited E5 Bakehouse two days In the row. However, my first visit there was around one year ago, for a mushroom toast and coffee. Till today I remember the taste of the warm sandwich and I came back with the same taste. Bakehouse belongs to a busy, usually packed and loud place. You need to be patient with "fighting" for a place, but once you sit its all good —good bread with good noise. Thus, it drips with the honesty - of products that can be bought for takeaway and obtained in the cafe/restaurant/bistro. Besides the bread with avocado, jam and butter, scrambled eggs, we had the opportunity to try very simple, yet extremely delicious oatmeal. The extraordinarily comes with transparency, symbolically and literally, you can use the bathroom after going though a workspace, and actual bake spot. In addition, there is a variety of breakfast/brunch choices, yet everything is under the umbrella of simplicity, and to be honest there is nothing more needed. It seems all delicious. I would love to come back and try a selection of wines and the dinner menu. Also, I am curious how the space of the actual bakehouse comes to life in the evening.

We stopped by the E5 Bakehouse and grabbed 2 of the Hackney loaves. The breads were amazing - so tasty, soft, and full of flavour! And the loaves lasted ages too. A must try if you're in the area. We'll be back to try some of the cakes next time.

A friend of mine brought some pastries from this place to a social gathering and we all loved them. Therefore, I decided to make a special trip to hackney to visit this place and I must say I was disappointed. The place is really big with both, inside and outside seating but it looks like an empty warehouse. The employee behind the counter look bored and are not very welcoming. We ordered tea and I bought their seeded rye bread which was not very good and in my opinion was very expensive for the quality I got. They had a few vegan desserts and some simple pastries like croissants and brownies. In my opinion, there are better places that offer quality products and are happy to service their costumers. The two stars are for their excelente walnut cake. No to go cups which is really inconvenient.

Have been here many times including for one of their sourdough bread baking courses. Bread and cakes are good but the service is consistently miserable and surly. Came here Saturday for a loaf of bread but the guy serving just barked at us and looked extremely morose so we walked straight out again. Don't know if I'll bother with this place again - it feels like you pay with your happiness for their baked goods. Back in the days there weren't many good bakeries in the area but now there are plenty of alternatives.

Big, roomy space with a wonderful selection of healthy, tasty food: bread, salads, baked goodies. Plus decent coffee. I like it here. My only reservation is the guy at the till who seems almost hilariously unsuited to customer service - clearly dislikes everyone he has to serve and is unwilling to even pretend to be friendly and helpful. Which is weird. Other than that, I do recommend!

We went in to buy coffee, but the guy was so unnecessarily rude, we walked away. A very nice colleague of his apologised and tried to help. Unfortunately we felt so unwelcome we didn't want to stay. With so many other lovely options near by I would suggest elsewhere.

I've been coming here for years and all the food, baked goods, lunch, cheese etc is excellent but I am so bored of how rude and blank faced the staff are. There's rarely a smile and a constant turnover of staff, please consider customer service as part of what you do and maybe employ people who really need a job instead of white middle class students and artists who don't want to be there.

Paid £7 for a coffee and a biscuit the size of a pound coin, listened to some Americans talk about their podcast and “power struggles” and realised this is not the place for me. Biscuit was hella good tho.

At Artisan Bakery under East London's railways arches. This place has set the bar high as far as bread and pastry goes. Their sourdough loaves are phenominal, freshly baked throughout the morning and afternoon (due to demand). The pastry are to rave about, my preferences are in the following order: Cardamon Bun (easilly the winner, however, disappointingly the cardamon flavour has gotten weaker over the last year or so, please go back to the original recipe), Almond Pain Au Chocolat (a blend of my two favourite traditional pastries) and Cinamon Bun. They also serve brunches/ lunches - their halloumi bun is one of my favourites. Their coffee is also decent. There is always a queue outside. I highly recommend using their online order form to secure a collection, in which case you can join the collection queue which is generally a lot shorter. I could not recommend more!

Great products sold 1/3 more of the price; half the staff is pedantic, dry and unfriendly; sit-in food is also great; cofee is at best average and prepare yourself to wait a good 5-10mins for it to be handed with disdain and a look of "you're not happy? leave." this place is a bargain really: mood-killer for great bread.

I used to blog about coffee in London under the name "Cups of London Coffee." I have been to over 600 different coffee shops in the capital (not an exaggeration). I visited E5 four years ago and loved it. Now I can safely say that the brunch at E5 is possibly the most dysfunctional and ridiculous I have ever been to. Some caveats in favour of E5: The food was great. We were a big group. It was a busy(ish) Sunday and so we expect things to be backed up. We were a group of 6. However, almost unbelievably - over a space of 65 minutes, the food and coffee managed to come at completely different times. Three of us had to wait over an hour for eggs on toast. This in part due to the fact that E5 serves food from two kitchens. That's fine. It happens. Brunch places get backed up at brunch. What was inexcusable was an absolute stream of waiters who seemed unsympathetic to our situation. They could have at least offered a coffee for the table. Insult to injury, the chefs in the kitchen seemed to be joking around. In the end, we were part of a couple other people who all had enough of waiting and asked for refunds. There are so many great brunch places in London. My advice - save yourselves and give E5 a miss.

Large eclectic space with massive bakery in the back. Food was well prepared, however, I ordered smoked trout with labneh on organic grain bread. Recurved smoked salmon not smoked trout. It was good but not what I had ordered and staff provided no explanation for the substitution
