We hadn't booked but there was space at the bar to eat. Given the location of this restaurant in the theatre area I had low expectations but it was amazing.
The restaurant itself is what you want from a tapas place, it's dark and atmospheric. The food was delicious, we had 6 between the two of us and we were very satisfied. We ordered a bottle of Portuguese Red which was around £48 and it was sensational. The bar tender told us the Merlot from the same vineyard was her other favourite and let us try that too.
Would recommend this restaurant if you want a laid back meal with great wine and amazing food.

Overall the experience was absolutely fantastic, the restaurant is quite small but that adds to the atmosphere, the table we had was quite cramped for 3 but the very kind waiter did offer us a larger table because we are all quite tall. Food was absolutely out of this world, the portion size for tapas was perfect and of exceptional quality. 3 plates each to share and 2 breads worked out perfect for our group of 3. Would highly recommend to anyone

Wow! So many places were hurt or disappeared during Covid (when we emigrated from the UK back to Denmark) but the Port House maintained the quality and standards of the place that I had gone to several times on London visits when we were in Windsor
We had some friends from the US that were in the UK on holiday (with different “food rules” which sometimes makes selecting a restaurant difficult) but the very large selection of different types of food in small tapas sized portions was perfect
Everything was served by staff always with a smile and seemed to deal with our dithering over selections with helpful suggestions
We have family who just left us here going to London and I suggested/insisted they go in to The Port House for a perfect evening meal.
Thanks for renewing my faith in the hospitality sector!

My favourite place to have a meal in London but not anymore. Went last night to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary and it was such a massive disappointment. Only three dishes arrived in the beginning, the baby squid was awful, we only tried a piece each. We waited a full 45 minutes for our others that only turned up because we told them to leave it as we had waited far too long and they then only brought out 2 and one of them was wrong, by this time there was hardly any tables with people eating so I’ve no idea what the problem was. We should have probably only paid for the wine we had and left. Totally spoiled our anniversary meal. No sorry either but they did have the good grace not to add a service charge. Left very disappointed.

Booked The Port House for my Birthday reading the glowing reviews on here mentioning how good the food is. I can agree the food was okay in particular the beef cheeks. However, some dishes were not, for example the bravos patatas were smothered in garlic aioli which doesn't seem normal and overall the food was below average, with all of us leaving hungry. I was disappointed with my experience here. I appreciate December is a busy time, but it took 30 minutes to receive a glass of wine which didn't arrive till after the food was finished and the servers were not apologetic in the slightest for this. I booked this for my birthday and added a note when booking to say this, however, this was not acknowledged whatsoever by the staff. Overall, I was disappointed with the experience and put a downer on my birthday night. Would not go back to The Port House.

Amazing. Quite dark but atmospheric and cosy restaurant. We shared the prawns pil pil, meatballs, tempura cauliflower and bruschetta with manchego and each was delicious … but we had to order a second portion of the prawns as they were so good! Service was excellent - attentive but not intrusive and the cost less than expected. Would definitely recommend.

Had a great meal at The Port House, everything was just right and that doesn’t happen very often at restaurants these days. The food was all perfect and especially good for Gluten Free, it's all marked up and most of the dishes are GF due to their extensive use of cornflour. Alexandria, deserves a special mention for all the advice she gave us. Will return on our next trip to London

What a treasure! We visited in June with my partner, just before going into the theatre. Even though we did not have a reservation we have been seated in no time. The place is nicely light by ambient lights and candles. Service is superfast and greatly educated on their menu so if you do not know, they will recommend the best. We had a wide choice of tapas, all of them tasty with great seasoning and texture. Portions are big enough to treat you well. The wine choice is amazing. If you ever happen to be around this place is a real gem and I will go again. Thank you for the fantastic time with you! Congratulations to all the people from the service to made our day so special. Thank you!

Ate here on Friday the 6th Dec. This place is a gem, food is fantastic, taster ports are fantastic, staff are fantastic and we had 8 tapas meals, a bottle of Prosecco, 1 Beer, 1 Large wine plus a taster port (3 50ml types) and it was £40 per head, yes London, £40 per head for great food. Need I say more!!!

Went to this restaurant Friday booked a table. All I can say is how disappointing the standard of the tapas were everything felt like it was cook from frozen the food was cold even the prawns cooked in olive oil were cold. The bread was stale . I know tapas are small portions but these were tiny and did not reflect any other Tapas restaurants we had ever eaten in both in the UK or in Spain . We stayed for a total of 30 mins spent 85 pounds and were so hungry we got a take away after the theatre. The food can not be described as quality, we went even offered a glass of wine with our meal. Really low point was the squid again arrived cold . Pokey little table with poor service. It is my opinion this place is trading on tourists but it is not value for money . Table wasn't very clean. All in all a total disappointment way below par and not surprising the restaurant was almost empty . Don't waste your money this restaurant gives Tapas a bad name.

This place has lots of character just off Covent Garden with an ambient cellar like feel. Saturday lunch (Off to Twickenham after for Eng v NZ) and pretty empty when we arrived just after midday but very quickly filled up which is always a good sign. We ordered 5 dishes between the 2 of us which was probably about right however portions small (even for tapas) for the price paid viz > £10 for a dish of prawns with garlic. >£7 for two very small pieces of salmon on toast, >£7 for a mini burger etc etc. Yes I know its Central London but portions v price not comparable with other tapas bars/restaurants nearby.
Seating a little cramped but perhaps thats part of the attraction. Service very good as was the wine and port. Manage to blow £130 but that did include a nice bottle of white Rioja and a very large glass of port each to finish instead of desert.
Overall a decent experience but probably wont rush back just yet.

We arrived around 9pm on a Saturday night without a booking and were quickly seated upstairs.
The restaurant had great ambience. Upstairs was lit by candles which looked lovely, but it was a little too dark for me and I struggled to see. The service was quick and attentive, and all the food and drink was delicious. We shared five tapas between us and were more than satisfied. Can highly recommend the Croquetas Jamon, Albondigas, and the Arroz Portuguese.

This used to be a regular favourite of mine but things have changed.
Placed our food order and ordered drinks, the staff seemed indifferent and were more interested in chatting with each other than serving customers. Had to call out to get more drinks and then send them back as the glasses where covered in old lipstick, after 30 minutes checked where the food was they hadn’t put it through to the kitchen. Staff didn't seem that bothered.
Shame it used to be good.

We booked a table at The Port House for my birthday meal prior to visiting the theatre. The staff were helpful and provided details of Gluten Free dishes which two of our party required. Food was delicious and desserts were equally as good. Thankyou for great meal

Good find for really good tapas. Nice casual but attentive approach. All the food we had was good. The paprika and garlic chicken spicier than expected. The braised beef cheek was really good but a little on the expensive side fire how much there was. Would not change anything apart about the place, service it food.
