We tried this restaurant for a quick early meal. That was not what the food and menu deserved. We only had time for a main course, but everyone really enjoyed what they had chosen. The starters on the menu all looked interesting. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. I would like to have the opportunity to have a... More

I was looking forward to dinner at Pizarro after a flawless meal there in November. Unfortunately, everything we ate was a disappointment. The cuttlefish with confit onions was soggy, cold and flavourless, and the beef rib was dry and under seasoned. The biggest disappointment was the marinated iberico pork fillet which we loved last time, but it was now extremely... More

Not the cheapest place but it has such great quality and flavour. Even simple meals like quail were so enhanced by the mixed kale that it took me by complete surprise. The menu items look simple but have a depth they are subtly flavoured and are reflecting the less is more without being tiny or unfulfilling. The wine selection is... More

Was excited about eating here as i'm a fan of José Pizarro. Booked for a special birthday meal for my partner, and mentioned so in the booking request. Turned up, got sat in the first awful seat in the place right by the corridor for the toilets. was bumped several times by customers and staff alike. The food was hit... More

Busy and with a good atmosphere. The food is good but quite expensive fir what you get. Wine good but on the expensive side. You can enjoy a nice meal in good surroundings but you pay a lot for what you get in my opinion. Priced a bit higher than it's worth.

The best place in London to eat Spanish and Catalan cuisine. Jose is so warm as all the crew. Definitely, a must to go

We called in here at 9pm on a Sunday night after a trip to Wembley. We thought we might be too late but received a warm welcome. We chose a few dishes from the Pica Pica section of the menu and all were excellent. In particular the mushroom croquettes were exceptional. All food is cooked to order in the open... More

Went here early Saturday night for a quick dinner before theatre and had a really good experience. The style of the food is very like being in Barcelona and the quality is likewise. We did the pica pica experience with olives, pan de tomato and Chorizo and loved it. Then we did the monkfisk and the lamb and both were... More

This is an excellent, if pricey, restaurant. The Presa Ibérica is the star of the show; it is to pork what wagyu is to beef!

I had been to Pizarro a couple of times for lunch when it had been a little quiet, tucked away as it is at the top end of Bermondsey Street, so was curious to see how it would be in the evenings. I need not have worried. The atmosphere in the full dining room was warm, friendly and expectant, with... More

Description
The full-sized restaurant is one block away from my sherry and tapas bar, José, on Bermondsey Street. At the front there is a bar, offering a great selection of sherries and Spanish wines, with a spotlight on cavas, Spanish style gin tónicas and Spanish vermút. Here, at the window seats overlooking the lovely church of St Mary Magdalen or at the long communal table or at the bar itself, you can have a drink and graze on snacks, cheese, cold cuts and special tapas all day long. At the rear is more formal restaurant seating - tables for 2 and 4, banquettes for 4-5, a large communal table for 8-10 people and a private dining room for 8-10 people. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner in the evening all day from Monday until Sunday. When the restaurant area is open, the restaurant food menu is available in both the restaurant and the bar. We offer a selection of small and more substantial dishes that can be served as starters and mains or as tapas for sharing. As usual, I want to bring you delicious food with bright new flavours - the season's best on a plate. We take reservations for lunch and dinner in the restaurant and private dining tables, but hold the bar seating back for walk-ins.

Staying in Southwark

Neighbourhood Profile
Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
