We came here for dinner on a Friday night having previously been customers of the White Onion, we'd heard good things about The Black Lamb. As I couldn't find the wine menu online, we took a bottle with us and had it decantered. The lip of the decanter was so chipped I wouldn't have served it to friends at home let alone used it in a restaurant. The food was generally good, but not great. The standout was the Hake but the lamb rump was a big disappointment. It was very Sunday pub lunch, something you could probably cook yourself. The prices aren't extortionate but not cheap either and for that money there are better restaurants to visit.

We visited on NYE for their NYE menu having been impressed with their food previously. Unfortunately this experience did not live up to expectations. The service was just shockingly poor and whilst it was busy, it was not for lack of staff. They were just very inattentive and genuinely couldn’t be bothered to serve. Our second course had appeared on the table and we had to stop and ask if we could order drinks as nobody had asked if we would like to order wine or have water for the table. The food was well cooked but the portions were small and did not match the food that we had on our previous visit. Considering our bill was over £300, I cannot say it was value for money.

An enjoyable and relaxed experience. Good choice of starters. Mains were both excellent (Lamb rump & Pollock) and you don’t need to add a small plate of baked potatoes @ £6. Of the total for 2 - £160, …….£40 was for wine and £19 service charge at 13.5%! Despite this minor whinge the staff were brilliant and we will return.

Very Bad Service, average food and inflated prices! Very disappointed with this restaurant. We arrived for dinner, a table for 5 booked. The restaurant offers a small menu so you imagine all will be available, well thought through & fresh. Not all was available and the choice is really not balanced. Our waitress had no clue when asked questions on the menu, she looked very unhappy to be working and simply said she was just back from being off and the menu had changed, she also said she was not well. I would suggest all staff should be briefed on the menu before their shift, especially when the menu is so small. Also, I would suggest a staff member should not be working around food & the general public if not well! We asked for olive oil for the sourdough bread we ordered (which was not sourdough but a basic white) as two of us do not eat butter but they had none. It is butter or nothing. When we asked for dessert menus, we were told the kitchen had closed. I was amazed that no one came to us to let us know before it closed especially as things were quiet and at least 3 members of staff seemed to be just hanging around. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated with pleasant lighting. the man who I imagine is the head waiter/manager was pleasant enough but all in all this restaurant is not doing enough. The main issue is the staff. A few more smiles would be nice and more attentive service all round is urgently needed. Our mains were fine but really quite average and yet the prices are above. We had a guest with us on the night, if not, I would have amended the service charge that is automatically put onto the bill, 13.5%. Really? For this service! No! All in all, a very disappointing evening out. I am sorry to say I would not return and would not recommend The Black Lamb.

We ordered a main course only, we all ordered the same meal, beef bavette. We waited quite a while to receive our meal, when it arrived it was cold, my father in law was ok to eat his (it really should have went back) all the food was lukewarm or cold. 3 meals went back, we waited a good 20 mins for the food to be re-served. We were told by the waiter there will be a slight delay until our food would be served as the chef had to recook, We were then told by the manager it would be 5 mins until our food arrived as the restaurant was full! Absolutely no excuse for any delays the food should have been hot in the first place. When the food arrived they brought 4 fresh plates , even though my father in law had eaten his, this was a nice touch. However again we had lukewarm steak and cabbage, piping hot roast potatoes and cold charred onions! We asked for the bill and was told they had removed the service charge due to the issues we had, fair play but we wouldn’t have paid it anyway. Our wait was noticed by other guests who said, I have to say you have been extremely patient! The quality of the food and presentation was good, just not warm.

Thought we’d give this place another try after a previously disappointing experience and sadly no improvement. Attractive elegant yet chintzy decor with cosy Sunday ambience interrupted only intermittently by precocious kiddies banging on tables. We opted for the Sunday roasts but they arrived cold with dry over-cooked Yorkshire puddings, tasteless insipid gravy that seemed only to have seen a stock cube and cornflour, almost raw uncuttable celeriac, and the star of the plate, 3 tiny wafer-thin pieces of strip-loin beef, that was more gristle and fat than meat. Uptick was the delicious sympathetically cooked pork chop, carrot and garlic roasties served by our courteous friendly waiter, Gabrielle who was welcoming, attentive and empathetically did not charge us for the roast beef meal. £35 lighter for 1 roast pork plate and 2 litres of sparkling water, we left disappointed again. Not a single acknowledgment from the management resulted in us cancelling our Valentine’s reservation; not wanting a repeat of disappointing experience. We won’t be back 👎

Visited the Black Lamb for a Sunday Lunch with a party of 6 for a birthday. The service was terrible. Sure it was medium busy but the main waiter/maitre’d was so rude. (Italian/French older guy). His attitude was off and the same can be said for the rest of the staff. As for the actual meal itself. £24 for a roast dinner that contains 3 measly potatoes and a meal that barely fills the plate is a bit of a rip off. Farm to plate I can understand but it’s just not good value for money. Save your £ and go to The Rose and Crown down the road - Also they forgot my Roast Potatoes on my plate so it looked very bare - I had to ask multiple waiters 3 times if I could have some (one for every potato on the plate) Prententious, Poor Sevice, Overpriced, save your money and go to any other one of Wimbledon Village’s hotspots.

I dined this Saturday and unfortunately had another dissatisfactory experience. The waitress was again a little clueless. She advised the course before starters was 'only a mouthful' so on her advice ordered this course, plus starters and a main each. The first course was as big as the starters. I wanted to order a bottle of wine from the fine wine menu - but wasn't available (why on earth not)? That's a big disappointment as i took time to read through the list carefully before deciding. We were recommended a bottle which was ok, but not totally to our liking. Again we were left to pour our own wine until the last glass. Seems to be a pattern. I asked the waitress for a toothpick late on when there were few diners left but it didn't materialise and waited 5 mins before asking another team member. The food was delicious, though think we were mis sold the first course. Overall, the staff are very wanting, as i have said before have no problem paying for fine dining, but you must deliver. The wine was missing from the bill, which was a nice gesture but overall were still way from happy with the experience - for the second time.

We live in Wimbledon Village and dine at every restaurant in the village frequently. When the Black Lamb opened we were looking forward to a new venue. We found it to be very hit and miss , the mid week set lunch menu was the best value although when they first opened there was only one starter and main course choice. After we suggested that there should be at least two they changed this to two choices which improved the experience. The Al La carte menu always seemed overpriced compared to other restaurants and did not seem like value for money. We went for lunch today and weee very disappointed, hard non descript white bread at £4 , five small pardon peppers for £6.5 but the main dissapointment was my partners aubergine dish which was as under the main course section, she got half of a very small aubergine with some cherry tomatoes on top and a smear of dressing for £16 and to compound the negative experience tried to charge us £18 when the bill came. When I complained about the bread , pardon peppers and most of all the aubergine dish to the manager he proceeded to lecture me about Covid and Brexit etc which infuriated me . He did not spend any time or consideration actually analyzing the aubergine dish itself. That dish was the worst value for money dish that I have ever had In Wimbledon Village. We are I’ll not be going back and I will tell our very large circle of friends in the Village about our experience.

From the crab linguine to hake with piperade sauce, we couldn't fault the food at the Black Lamb. But with tables close together and some of them seating 12 or more people, noise levels are off the chart. Hardly a romantic meal for two spot. The service was patchy too. Empty glasses and beer can left on the table along with menus, even though we'd chosen food. Servers from the kitchen plonk food down on the table with an attitude more in keeping with a greasy spoon cafe, not a fine dining establishment. The concept of the Black Lamb (locally sourced fresh food and wine) is wonderful. The food reflects this philosophy. But unless they change the table policy or do something to counteract low ceiling noise issues, I won't be coming again in the evening.

Vegetables were served very cold , ruined the meal with our Sunday roast, Parsnip was raw and inedible chicken was under-seasoned , waiter didn't seem to care much when we informed him of the problems with the dishes, why do they have the cheek to charge service charge for such poor service? Won't be returning , also seemed that the manager behind the bar was extremely loud often shouting at his staff . Advice to management- hire a cook that can cook a vegetable .

We had been excited about coming back to the BlackLamb after having had an excellent lunch here during the tennis fortnight - and feeling pleased that one of our favourite restaurants, the White Onion, had been replaced with another of a similar quality. Alas no! The menu sounded great, with most dishes comprising a selection of interesting ingredients. However, the accompanying components ended up being just a small garnish. My starter fish cake was a bit dry and boring, and served with a few gritty leaves and a tiny amount of dill butter. But the real tragedy was the sirloin steak, priced at £34. I am very much for supporting meat that is farmed ethically, and was therefore keen to try this dish. I worry that people will assume that all organic or locally reared meat is as tough and chewy as this was, which is just not the case. And again this dish, a plate full of sliced steak, was served with the tiniest amount of garnish. When we tried to explain that the meat was too tough - but made it clear that we were not doing so to get any compensation -it was of no further interest to the staff. They were too busy and lacked attention to detail. On a positive note, the side dish of baked potatoes and the signature marmite eclair nibbles were great. And on a Saturday night, the buzzy atmosphere was good. This restaurant has so much potential, but I think there is a bit of a gap between the owner’s vision and what the customer actually wants, and some frustrated staff stuck in the middle.

Had very high hopes based on fellow guests previous visits, but very sadly I wasn't wowed. The welcome and service was lovely but not much atmosphere and felt rather quiet. To my surprise the food wasn't as good as I'd hoped. The chalk stream trout seemed fairly average and slightly oversold on the menu, while the main course (duck) didn't delight. There are other establishments round about where similar dishes are on offer and to my mind are simply better. Just to prove I'm not cheerless and grumpy, the apple tarte tatin was very good as was the Nutbourne sparkling! I'm sure I will return and just hope this was one of those nights.

Recently had a large group lunch at the Black Lamb to celebrate a significant birthday; we had the private dining room for 18 people. Great experience all round with fantastic food and great service; in particular Rob the manager who was very accommodating through the booking process and Abin who was the server for our group; Abin was fantastic with such a large group on the day. The food was generous and delicious with the venison chips and fallow deer being particular highlights; all the group said they would love to come back and dine here again. The private room is also very pretty and although not huge, works well for a group of up to 20; it was also pleasing not to have to pay an additional charge for room hire. Overall a great afternoon, thank you.

This is another iteration of the Gladwin Brothers’ sustainably sourced attack uoon many a SW London High Street. From a Rabbit in the King’s Road to a Notting Hill Shed via a temporary dead end taking over whst had been Ransome’s Dock Battersea they have now supplanted Wimbledon High Street’s Lawn with their Sussex Nutbourne meat and vegetables. Black Lamb fits well in affluent Wimbledon village whose locals are well used to premium-priced wines, well-priced mains requiring additional sides, a waiter who expresses surprise if not mild irritation when diners are content with tap water rather than expensive bottles from a West Sussex spring. We enjoyed the likes of pecorino and asparagus ravioli, bavette steak and a salmon salad but were slightly irritated when our side of potatoes came with our starters.
