I've been going to the Blackfriar for years and, as it's now on tourist itineraries, it's changed a lot, especially the food. It was known for really good fish and chips but, having ordered this for the first time in quite a while, it was a big disappointment. Gone are the big piece of fish in nice batter and lots... More

Great portions, great service-but very small place and it fills up fast, so go early or just be prepared to wait. But it's worth it! The portion of fish in the fish and chips is ENORMOUS! You will not go hungry! And it's very fresh and delicious!

You'll enjoy the real ales and pub food coming from this great watering hole in its eponymous neighborhood.

Both the inside and outside of this pub is stunning. I was particularly impressed with the dining room. It's probably the smallest dining room I've ever eaten in but it's beautiful! Make sure you take time to look up and around! The food wasn't mind blowing but very good quality for the price. There is also an excellent selection of... More

This is a wonderful traditional pub, no ifs or buts. Outside is an old building surrounded by new structures including Blackfriars Station. Inside the decoration is just great and very much in keeping with the pub's name. There is a great selection of ales, beers, wine, etc. and even a bar nibbles menu. What drops the rating is the quality/quantity... More

First found this gem of a pub in 1968! It still has an amazing atmosphere and ambience and friendly, hard working staff. The food and beer are excellent. Never been disappointed and have introduced many friends to The Blackfriar and its facinating interior and history - and food.

What a stunning decor, loved the ceiling and lamps so much, worth to come once at least! Silence is golden - my favorite! Busy place, but if book in advance will have a table with no issues. Meat platter was really delicious even hot snacks (chips with pulled pork and barbecue sauce) was great too for a really affordably price... More

The Blackfriar is one of about forty Nicholson's pubs in the London area. All are worth a visit. The Blackfriar is full of atmosphere and the dining room is very special with its tiling and mosaics. If dining, it is best to book in advance and online booking is available. Most pubs have a dining area with service. It has... More

Good pub food with the traditional fish and chips and of course beer. The service is great (Anna is the best). There are very few tables so better to reserve

Staying in City of London

Neighbourhood Profile
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighbourhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighbourhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
