Tried this today and following the great reviews was looking forward to it. It's an independent coffee shops with some great looking cakes and Monmouth coffee - what's not to like. Well the waitress sort of jumped on us as we entered without really giving any time to settle into their seat, have a chat and decide what to eat... More

First our tea is 2.50 . Secondly there are signs everywhere saying that we have a table sharing policy . The water for tea could not have been tebid because it comes straingh from the machine into the cups.. we do not use twinnings tea .. having said that twinnings tea is excellent. We are a specialty coffee shop not... More

This is an amazing place, the coffee is to die for, the flavours and aromas, my favourite in the area. The pastries are divine and they also sell sandwich and small bites. All very good. The staff are super friendly and quick at taking orders which can't be easy because it is always full of customers. They have two things... More

Visited recently after being told by a colleague the coffee was nice - it was...but I also saw someone told off for taking photos. And NO they weren't frustrated models as i read in the slightly psychotic staff response to the review below. The decor is a bit naff, old paper clippings with photos of Carry On actors. The kind... We always reply from the heart , we always put our side and we do not take lies easily . The lady in question was taking pics of everyone who was seated, she was taking pics of our staff while they were making coffees. That is a NO NO ..the customers were not happy about her taking photos...you may love... More

I used to frequent this place a lot when it was in Holborn and loved the quaintness of it - the decor is very distinct with clippings on the walls and little notes on chalkboards. Now it's in the City it's still got the look and feel of the old place but the staff have become incredibly rude ("NO PHOTOS!")... More

The coffee is first rate. The staff are friendly and the setting is very warm and cosy. They are now on London Wall and they are the only good coffee place near my workplace.I am now a regular and they know what I order!

I discovered this place a few weeks after moving to London. It's on my commute, and unless you know it's there, you can miss it. I have gone back there for my morning coffee every day without fail. I highly, highly recommend! Monmouth Coffee, amazing and quick service, and the décor is really cool. I haven't eaten the food, but... More

Popped in here for coffee early morning. What a pleasant surprise. Fantastic coffee and delicious range of cakes. Such a quirky, compact interior. I will certainly go again when I am in the area.

I came passed here a few weeks ago and noticed this very pleasant looking independent coffee shop which is a rarity if not unique in the middle of The City. The place is small and quirky with lots of interesting décor. I ordered a flat white which I was slightly disappointed with. The quality of the coffee was good but... More

Tucked in between all the dreadful high street coffee shop chains. What a hidden gem, great coffee. I went in the morning and the locals in the know are queuing up for their takeaway fix on the way to the office. This didn't stop the 3 staff to look after me and serve me some great coffee. Great watching them... More

Staying in City of London

Neighbourhood Profile
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighbourhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighbourhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
