Since our first visit to London this is the third time we've visited The Horniman at Hay's. It's a bit like coming home every time. It can be a bit crowded sometimes (we had to skip once when we were with my 82 year old mother). The public is a bit of a mix of local people, suits, and tourists,... More

Ordered a fish and chip platter, the place was rather busy, so we ended up ordering from the bartender and asked to have it delivered to the table. Table service would've been nice.

We booked a table for dinner Easter Saturday to end a day trip to London. Unfortunately, our table had been given to another diner. We initially sat at a table for 8 (we were only 3) as there was no indication how long we would need to wait for the table to become free. As it happened, the table was... More

My dad and I dropped in for a quick pit stop before heading down the south bank. They had a great selection of beer which the old man took full advantage of, I dabbled in their extensive range of whiskies. We didn't have food but next time we are in we certainly will try to grab a bite. Well worth... More

Busy as always as great location. Every visit I have the service is hit and miss though. It's a busy pub so surely they should have an appropriate number of bar staff and a smile wouldn't go amiss whilst serving.........

Hi Sue, Thanks for taking the time to give us a review. I'm saddened to read the service wasn't up to our expectations. We are working behind the scenes to help coach the team in a more consistent, better level of service, starting with the obligatory smile. We have used this riverside bar for drinks after work on a few occasions - great location, easy to find from Hays Galleria off Tooley St. Good selection of beers and wines, great views, would recommend.

We were in the area on a team building / drinks afternoon One of the group recommended this place Apart from its view on the outside walkway it had nothing else positive to cheer about The rudest most grumpy waiting bar maid I have ever encountered didn't get her name but she was Irish told us why should she smile... Hi Andy, Sorry to read about your terrible experience, if I may just ask are you sure it was with us? We don't have any Irish waiting staff (we do have a male, Irish manager) nor does our team start at 8am. If indeed it was us and not one of our neighbouring businesses I am genuinely sorry for that... More

We visited on a day trip to London with friends. The menu is varied and great value for money especially for Central London. It was very busy and we did have to wait to find seats. Ordering is at the bar but there is table service upstairs. The food was very nice when it arrived, although some of the waitresses... More

I went to the Hornimans for lunch from the office- we waited almost an hour for our food and then one of the meals came without the coleslaw which was shown on the menu and no explanation from the staff. When the missing item was pointed out it seemed to be a huge inconvenience to offer an alternative of a... More

Booked this authentic sounding pub next to the Thames. The menu sounded good and also the view. However you could not see the view and the food was not to the standard I would have expected. We ordered nachos that were reheated, my ribeye steak was tough as boots and my daughters mac cheese had a hair in it. The... More

Description
You will find The Horniman at Hays in London Bridge within a short stroll of HMS Belfast, Tooley Street and London Bridge Tube - however you won't find another like it.

Step in to discover a traditional pub of unique character, revered for its eclectic range of real ales and its quality pub food, which are served, as they should be, with a generous measure of famous British hospitality.

This area along the south bank of the Thames was historically known as the 'Larder of London'. The pub is on the site of the tea warehouse owned by Frederick Horniman, a famous tea dealer, and Hay's Wharf was the largest and oldest wharf in the Port of London. Inside our pub, attractive friezes depict Horniman's travels to Africa, India and the Americas.

Staying in Southwark

Neighbourhood Profile
Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
