A family Saturday night dinner to treat my (perpetually hungry) eldest son and to satisfy my (oyster mad) youngest son - what better than an oyster and chop restauarant ? Unlike in other reviews, the music was subdued and we could all hold a conversation...More

The location is great. Food is average: I had the hix fish and chips as a main course which was quite tasteless. As a dessert I ordered ice cream with hot chocolate sauce and that delicious. What disappointed us was service: we were seated a...More

Great place just steps from The Rookery Hotel. Fabulous oyster specials before 1900. Knowledgable waiter on where the oysters are from and how they might taste. Food was very good - lamb was a little difficult due to the way the bone is in the...More

We went on Saturday for lunch(ie my wife and I).The area was pretty much deserted and the restaurant was virtually empty, and possibly they didn't have the "first team" out. The service was perfectly ok, although with a staff customer ratio of 1:1 that's what...More

We had a good Sunday lunch here. Although there was a very large party of some 40 people taking over more than half the restaurant, the staff looked after us well and we had a good meal. Some of the food was OK but dull,...More

The service here was good and not too over the top. The food was good but it wouldn't necessarily make me want to return visit. I had the duck salad which was ok and then the mutton curry which was very nice and about the...More

This restaurant came recommended by a local and it didn’t disappoint. The oysters were simply divine. Steaks brilliant. A solid wine list topped off a brilliant experience. Friendly and knowledgeable staff too.

Description
HIX Oyster & Chop House is situated a stones throw from Smithfield Market, London’s historic meat market. Originally a sausage factory and then a fish restaurant, many of its original features remain. The wooden floors, marble oyster bar, tiled walls and linen tablecloths go towards creating an elegant yet unfussy dining room. The menu reflects Mark Hix’s signature British style with seasonal and daily changing dishes featuring oysters from around the British Isles, and a selection of meats and steaks on the bone.
