Description
Since 2005, Marble Arch in central London has become a somewhat of a gastro-destination thanks to celeb chef Gary Rhodes W1 Brasserie (and its fine dining equivalent, W1 Restaurant). Located in the luxe Cumberland Hotel, chef and patron Gary Rhodes has created an appealing menu of modern European dishes, encompassing all that is good about French, Italian and British cuisines and British produce. You could start with a luscious charcuterie plate, then move on to a seasonal pasta dish and finish with a full-bodied British grill, or succulent roast chicken. Though that would mean missing out on dessert and, with tempting dishes like crme caramel and raspberry souffl on offer, and thats not something we would recommend. The Brasserie, like the Cumberland Hotel, boasts striking contemporary dcor, and its popularity and friendly professional staff ensure the atmosphere is always buzzy and welcoming.

Staying in Marylebone

Neighbourhood Profile
Marylebone
Marylebone offers what so many London neighbourhoods cannot: a village feel coupled with urban convenience. Much of its success rests in its location. Wedged between the northeastern corner of Hyde Park and the southern end of Regent's Park and with a number of Tube stations within easy reach, Marylebone is as pedestrian friendly as Central London gets. The bustling shopping mecca of Oxford Street separates it from Soho and Mayfair, exclusive Regent Street marks its border with Fitzrovia, and cosmopolitan Edgware Road serves as its western edge. Within this enviably situated quarter are an array of outstanding restaurants (from Michelin darlings to down and dirty cheeseburgers), an impressive assortment of independently owned shops, and some of the city's quietest and most pleasant nooks, crannies and cobbled lanes.
