Went there for a business meeting and it’s a good environment for that. Good drinks in a nice environment and good atmosphere. The food was more of traditional English food and if you don’t like english food you’ll be disappointed otherwise it’s an ok choice.

Lunch for about 60 in a room on the first floor. A bit crowded as we had drinks in the same room beforehand. Beef main course was delicious. Service was excellent. Mirrors all around the room were a bit disconcerting!

Arrived, staff were very friendly. We were given a table not too close to any one else. Very good for private discussions. Ordered and starters arrived very quickly. Main meal was Calves Liver perfectly cooked with bacon and mash. Recommended.

Third or fourth visit and never disappointed. Another pleasant visit to the mercer with a great starter of black pudding and main of lamb. Tasty and a great glass of wine to go with it.

A group of us went for Breakfast. The menu had been cut down from a decent selection to four dishes. Some people enjoyed theirs but many of us chose scrambled eggs and salmon which was horribly salty and the eggs were dry. We were given...More

Had a farewell dinner here and while the food is always good, I find the private rooms a little austere. The room we were in was downstairs and had no natural light so it felt a little like being in a bunker.

I visited the Mercer for breakfast. The surroundings were grand, but the price does not reflect the quality of the food. The fresh pear juice tasted as though it had come out of a carton. The scrambled eggs on toast, at £7.50, did not include...More

This is one of my favourite restaurants, but the service and quality of food this week were really not up to standard. We waited around 30 minutes to be served and did complain about this and most of staff were apologetic . On the food...More

Fabulous pies, good old fashioned service, good wine list. Somewhere close by but not the usual chain style place, more relaxed with a higher quality feel to it. Don't need to roll up your trouser leg to eat here (but it may help!).
