We, my partner and, were looking for a pre-theatre dinner that was a little different. She's vegetarian - I am not, but am happy to eat well-prepared and thought-out vegetarian dishes. After a disappointing search for Vegetarian restaurants, we chanced upon this gem tucked away...More

Off the beaten track and in the Legal quarter of London, this restaurant caters with brio to veganism and vegetarian tastes. Brilliant nouvelle cuisine type and some very surprising dishes. Be adventurous and you'll be rewarded. The decor is art deco and trendy business like...More

What a fantastic place, just tucked away nicely, off the beaten track from Holborn. We had the 5 courses, one vegan and two vegetarians, the staff were amazingly good and very informative of the courses we were having. The food was outstanding and very well...More

Late night meal we tried the taster menu, all a little experimental, cutting edge nibbles, food very tasty and some very clever but I for one was still peckish which should not really be the case when spending this much money on vegetables, Fantastic for...More

A lady phoned us 20 minutes after our reservation to ask where we were in a rather indignant voice. I explained to her that we’d been unable to make it as we’d had to rush our daughter to A&E, and that we’d been unable to...More

We visited with friends on May 10th and were excited to try something new that is wholly vegetarian. The menu needed decoding by the waitress as we just didn't understand what anything was. The waitress hurriedly recited everything (she has to do this each day...More

My host kindly booked this well known vegetarian restaurant as the other guest professed to be of that inclination. It was slightly ungracious when he arrived announcing he had been previously and it was "nouvelle cuisine" style so we had all better bulk up on...More

Visited here for a business lunch in a group of five, April 2018. Weekday lunchtime. Staff were surly and borderline rude throughout. I cannot understand why, but it felt like they were utterly inconvenienced by having diners there and it was all slightly distasteful for...More

Your mother's mantra of "eat your vegetables" probably never brought to mind dishes quite like this. Vanilla Black restaurant, originally from York but now located in the City of London near Chancery Lane, smashes the stereotype of bland, lentil-laden hippie dishes. Instead, Vanilla Black takes a modern, imaginative and ambitious approach to vegetarian cuisine. Result? It is the only vegetarian restaurant in London that's recommended in the Michelin Guide. At Vanilla Black, it's not "vegetarian cooking", it's "vegetable cuisine". The dining areas are spacious and done with art deco-esque flair, Vanilla Black's cool and comfortable dining room sets the stage for its innovative cuisine. Dishes such as hickory smoked duck egg and Ducketts Caerphilly pudding and sweet potato vindaloo with saffron risotto are sure to make an impression on even the most diehard carnivore. Vanilla Black's desserts like carrot cake and orange sorbet with crystallised coriander delight the palate.
