Food was good, service was good. Beer only OK, although has a reasonable selection, Guinness badly poured - too much head and not left long enough to settle before topping off. Felt that with a bit more effort this could be a really good London Pub.

Walking past the other day, decided to go in for a pint, this proved to be a bit difficult as there were only three people in the pub and no one serving, I noticed that someone was cleaning the menu's (LOL), they should have been cleaning the disgusting toilets, so after a few minutes I went over to him and... This place has the best location, good food, and a large variety of drinks/beers. However - the toilet is HORRIBLE, and has been like this last couple of years. Needs a major upgrade !!

The barman got distracted after asking me for what drink i wanted, wondering off leaving me to wait till the people behind were served. They then tried to charge me for a large wine without offering a choice of size. The mulled wine was awful. The staff were terrible and the toilets not nice. Will definitely NOT be coming back... Worst food of all trip. They didn't bother to respect the allergy restrictions and messed it up. I asked no coleslaw and no dressing because of dairy allergy. I had no bacon but the coleslaw and dressing were there.... our other meals looked depressing and had no taste. the lower floor toilets were both closed. And the ground floor one... More

My last day and last lunch this time. I have been here before at that time pub was under Taylor Walker´s. Not anymore I guess? Steak Ale Pie was looking different (more fancy before) but still it´s was good/tasty with mashed potatoes, vegetables and gravy. Portion size is good when you´re very hungry. But you can also share with 2... More

Arrived in London on October 21, 2016. Couldn't wait for my first fish n chips meal and after walking around Covent Garden chose to dine at Sussex. We headed downstairs, my friend ordered a London Glory and we both ordered fish n chips. The food was amazing, and the portions were huge! Service was friendly and timely and the restrooms... More

We enjoyed our good lunch. It was a lamb shank surrounded by minced lamb cooked in a rich gravy, topped with minted mashed potatoes. Served with fresh seasonal vegetables and a jug of gravy and a baked potato with BBQ pulled pork. Great choice : The staff was very friendly. Very good experience.

Stopped by for some beers and chips. We had to order everything from the bar. The staff was unfriendly and disinterested. Zero concern for service or customer satisfaction. It took more than an hour and going back to the bar and times to get a pathetic bowl of chips (it was the size of a margarine brick). The patrons were... More

We stopped here on our way to covent garden. It was lovely to sit at a table out on the street & people watch. There was a street entertainer across the road who was great. The bar staff were polite & efficient. No problems at all.

Description
The Sussex in Covent Garden is a traditional London pub. You'll find us on Upper St Martins Lane, where Covent Garden connects to Leicester Square. Our menu is in the best tradition of British pub food. Best enjoyed with a drink, friends and always with a warm welcome. The area where the Sussex pub is situated has been a recognised thoroughfare since Saxon times. In Roman times this area also connected Westminster to the City of London. During the reign of King John (1199-1216) Long Acre was recorded as the northern boundary of the Covent Garden of the monks of St. Peter's Abbey. Over the years the area has been home to royalty, cartwrights and fruiterers in addition to famous names such as Nicholas Stone the sculptor, Oliver Cromwell and John Dryden. Today the area is still a bustling hub of activity connecting Covent Garden to Leicester Square. Our downstairs bar with a capacity of up to 100 is available to hire for private parties and functions. The team at the Sussex look forward to welcoming you!
