I've been here several times over the years and it has always been a great place to visit. Consistently good tasty food and friendly staff! Lovely and clean too.

Disgusting pizza and orribile dishes. The fish was not fresh and small. You not feel comfortable at all. The waiter are looking to you all the time. Never again. The worst restaurant I've been in London so far.

We chose Melanie as it was an independent restaurant near the cinema we were going to. A small restaurant absolutely packed with tables. Service was prompt taking orders but the food was very slow to arrive. My husband ordered parmagiana as his starter and it was certainly not hot. Such a pity as it tasted amazing . The mains were... Myself and mum visited here on Saturday evening after passing the restaurant. We had the tomato garlic bread starter, vegetarian pasta and jug of white sangria. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and drink and despite the big portions managed to finish it all! Would definitely return again

A friend and I were looking for a restaurant in this area and found Melanie had plenty of space so popped in. The place is clean and bright and had a quiet, but pleasant atmosphere. House wine is slightly expensive at £15.50, but this is central London and it was quite acceptable. Both starters, a linguine and deep fried breaded... More

We were struggling to find somewhere open late on a Sunday having just seen Cat Stevens at the Shaftesbury theatre and stumbled across this gem. Excellent service and food at a reasonable price for the West End.

I seriously pity the fools who have rated this place so highly!! This Is arguably one of the worst places I have ever eaten in. Where to start? We were told to wait in the doorway for a table in an empty restaurant when it was cold! The waiter poured the wine so aggressively it nearly spilt. We started with... More

We had a mid afternoon meal here in between theatre shows and it was a nice change from the huge number of chain restaurants in this area of London. We had a pizza and lasagne between us, both tasted good and looked homemade. The creme brûlée for dessert wasn't great, it had a slight tang and we didn't finish it... More

Every time that I visit Melanie is guarantee of good service and good food. Fresh and well prepared, there is quite a lot of food options. You will be really in doubt about what to eat. The scallopine milanese is delicious. Perfect option before theatre. Enjoy!!

We were looking for an independent family Italian restaurant near the Phoenix Theatre and came across this in Old Compton Street. It was empty at 5 pm but by 5.30 pm was starting to fill up. Lovely white tablecloths, welcoming staff but I got the impression they wanted us to order quickly. The main pasta courses were generous in size... More

Description
An Italian restaurant out of the ordinary, Melanies specialises in Neapolitan food, setting it apart from the numerous other dining rooms in Londons central Soho area. Located on the notorious Old Compton Street, close to Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square and the numerous theatres and cinemas the West End has to offer, Melanies is easy to spot thanks to its large awning proudly displaying the red, green and white of the Italian flag. Inside, youll find a dining room clad in much light wood and full of light, traditional, simple and comfortable in its dcor. In the kitchen, the focus is very much on the use of good ingredients, the chefs sourcing local and seasonal produce for their classic Neapolitan dishes. Youll recognise many of Melanies offerings, from favourite pizzas to well known pasta dishes, but youll also be tempted to try the specialties of the house which include the typical ingredients of Naples and the surrounding countryside and have roots in the Greco-Roman period.

Staying in Soho

Neighbourhood Profile
Soho
The go-to district for a good time in London, Soho hosts a wealth of world-class theatres and a compelling lineup of cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars, and clubs. At Soho's core is London's original Red Light District and the epicenter of the LGBT scene – and thus the city's hottest nightlife. For shopping enthusiasts, Soho is not only the home of London's greatest concentration of boutique shops, but also the most strategic place to set off on a tour of the world's most celebrated department stores. In the southern part of the neighbourhood lies Chinatown, with its multitude of delicious and affordable restaurants. Closer to the Thames, Chinatown's narrow and teeming lantern-lit lanes spill onto the expansive hub of glitzy Leicester Square.
