Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I booked ‘afternoon tea’ as a treat for a friends 70th birthday celebration we throughly enjoyed it. Nice relaxed atmosphere and great food and friendly service

Having had an excellent experience for dinner previously at LCW, it was my first choice when booking afternoon tea to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. Unfortunately, on this occasion, the staff were much less attentive despite it appearing quiet in the dining room. There were more...guests in the bar area and maybe this was the problem but it shouldn’t have been as ALL guests should be attended to equally. After starting with a drink in the bar, we were taken to our table in the dining area. Member of staff asked if we wanted hot drinks now or would rather wait until we finished our wine, we chose the latter which was a mistake! The food was delivered swiftly & items described to us, all good. The afternoon tea itself was excellent & my daughter’s birthday was acknowledged with a beautiful birthday chocolate platter which was a lovely touch. Unfortunately, both times we required our hot drinks, I had to go to the bar to request these as no staff were forthcoming. I then went to the bar again as we’d finished & asked for the bill & whether our remaining cakes could be boxed up. The bill came & I was handed the empty box to fill. No big deal if it was at your average cafe but when you’re paying close to £90, I expect better. LCW would do well to observe afternoon tea etiquette as demonstrated at the likes of The Corinthia, London & The Grosvenor, Chester as this was the standard I was expecting. I can’t fault the food but maybe keep your focus on what you do specialise in and ‘stay in your lane’! This experience was mid-week & early afternoon and maybe there were less staff on duty but that’s for LCW to explain. Overall, a disappointing experience despite good quality food. Won’t be returning.More

Fantastic food and the service was great. Unfortunately the restaurant was empty there were only a handful of covers on a Friday night and so the atmosphere was a little flat. Has been much livelier on previous visits although they were several (pre COVID) years...ago.More

Unfortunately we both had cold food. My main chicken supreme was cold and my husband's sticky toffee pudding was completely unheated! I can't understand how food can leave the kitchen like this. Was there a kitchen staff shortage on 3rd June with noone checking before...the food was served to us. My reheated chicken was lovely eventually. The saving grace was the utterly charming young waiter who served us and was so apologetic and also the excellent, professional restaurant manager who also apologised and gave a good discount. Still we enjoyed the overall experience and the wonderful hotel stay made up for it. We are frequent visitors & no doubt we will returnMore

Lovely restaurant and lovely staff. We have eaten here on a few occasions. However we noticed a distinct difference. The main course was very lacking. When we were last here, we were given a rack of lamb, this time around you only get two pieces...with nothing else, unless you want to order sides. Just seemed like they are now attempting to squeeze ever penny out of the customer for very little in return. Attempting to maximise profits at the customers disadvantage . We will go elsewhere next time. Please improve your customer experience and satisfaction!More

On arrival staff welcomed us and showed us to our seat. Unfortunately between that moment and finally being acknowledged was over 20 minutes. We were just about to leave and another waiter sensed the atmosphere and took our drinks order. Everything after this point was...great, including the food. We had 3 courses and couldn't fault it. Our waiters were nice and kept us topped up with drinks. Overall it was value for money. We didnt order wine as the price was extortionate. We eat out often and happy to pay a premium but not £45 odd for house wine. Definitely worth a visit.More

Probably my tenth visit for dinner (though this time I stayed too), over the last 20 years. The two most recent visits in the last year, the previous ones all that time ago. For me, it's been consistently good - great food, a really good...(and unusually so) wine list, and solid service. There are occasional misses with the service, but nothing that would make me knock points off. It is also lovely to see Matt still there, after 15 years of service - a great guy who is fully in charge of the room. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it good value? Yes. And you will struggle either to find the wines on this list elsewhere and, if you find them, you will be paying far more.More
