We visited Gilpin spice for my wife's birthday with her mum and dad and our kids. We ordered the tasting menu for the 4 adults and our eldest child and chicken skewers and a flatbread for our younger child. We were treated to a a range of different foods which everyone loved . However the best of all was the... More

Ate here with my wife last Tuesday (15th) and had a great meal. The setting was beautiful, clearly a huge effort has gone into creating a fantastix experience - and the food lived up to the location. We had a mix of mainly small plates, following the recommendations of the waiting team and loved everything. Will definitely return, and will... More

Well worth finding and trying but it's not the best Thai food we have tried. However, the restaurant makes up its * rating by its location, its ambience, its service, and the whole surroundings. The food needs to be a little better, the soups should be more realistic, the lamb, with less cinnamon, the tikka with less mint sauce!, etc.... More

If you have deep pockets and a small appetite then this is the place for you.We came home and had cheese and biscuits and apple crumble we were hungry and shocked at the portions!!. We got 6 tiny triangles of flat bread with 3 pots of dips. The kebabs(£12 ) were a joke. 3 wooden sticks with 3 tiny peices of... More

We ate in the main restaurant on the Saturday evening. It was extremely busy and the tables are quite close (cosy) together - so no private conversations to be had. We were sat next to a noisy table for part of the evening which made it difficult to hear each other speak. We opted for the 5 course Tasting menu... More

I had read about this in a magazine, looked at the website, and all looked appealing. An email confirming booking was sent to us and a phone call the day before to see if all was good. They were doing so well. Arriving on at a very wet night we ended up by the main hotel door. Some out came... More

This place is very well set out. Open kitchen with counter top seating and nice side rooms. The first thing you notice is the amount of staff wafting about, its wonder they make any kind of profit. We were look after very attentively by pleasant and courteous staff and ordered the tasting menu. The food in our opinion was definitely... More

Great food, good menu choicees and attentive service from people with whom you can engage.Wine list very varied and good ranging from £16 per bottle to very expensive. If you are looking for something a little spicier , The Gilpin Spice Brasserie looks great though we didn`t try it as we used the main Hrishi restaurant twice.

Description
Gilpin Lodge is a luxurious hotel and restaurant with a friendly, family-run atmosphere, located in the Lake District just 2 miles from Lake Windemere. Set in 20 acres of private gardens, moors and woodlands, Gilpin has been run as a hotel by the Cunliffe family since 1987 and has won countless awards over the years for its exquisite British cuisine and 300+ wine list. The four intimate dining rooms and Chapagne Bar are decadent yet down-to-earth, and the bar, gardens and lounges are pefect for an informal lunch. Signature dishes include fresh native oysters set in their own jelly; loin of Grizedale venison with baby Savoy cabbage, parsnips, chestnuts and a cinnamon sauce; and hot prune and Armagnac souffl with ice cream.
