What a great place to relax and enjoy a meal. Has been refurbished in recent years as it is no longer stuck in the 1800s. Nicely decorated yet it retains its old world charm. Food is amazing and a great choice of ales. Book a table in the conservatory or by a window and you will have amazing views looking... More

Went for a good catchup with a friend and we both ordered the beefburgers, they were delicious all homemade with onion rings and coleslaw. Service was fast and efficient and the whole place looked very clean and welcoming. Will definitely be back, keep up the good work, Easy to get too, big carpark, spaciously laid out so not all tables... More

Dropped in on the spur of the moment. Was fairly quiet when we arrived, was told to sit anywhere so sat in window overlooking the hills. It did fill up quite quickly though. We chose from the set lunch menu. Both had the Westmorland ramekin which was absolutely delicious. I had a homemade steak pie with chips, it was beautiful,... More

Stayed here for a couple of nights just me and the dog, and we loved it! The room was lovely, with a brilliant comfy bed. I ate here both nights and really enjoyed the food and relaxed atmosphere. Would definitely recommend

A group of us went for Sunday Lunch, with a baby, toddler and 2 dogs in tow, The Gateway were very accommodating. Everyone had a Sunday roast except for me as there was no vegetarian version on offer (rather disappointing), everyone cleared their plates and my soup was lovely.

Visited the restaurant last Tuesday, the food was excellent. Visited again the following evening the food was very disappointing. I did wonder if the same chef had cooked the dinner. I had lamb which was tough and tasteless. One of my friends had the creme brûlée for dessert, it was obviously stale as the bottom part of the dessert was... More

I went with friends this weekend for Sunday lunch and it was really delicious!! The staff couldn’t do enough for us and the meal was served very promptly. There was plenty of meat/veg and it was beautifully presented. Very reasonably priced too! I will be definitely revisiting in the future!

Stayed here for a few days and it was just what we were after. Very peaceful and relaxing, clean and tidy and staff were friendly especially Sally who was happy to have a lil chat to make sure we was having a nice time. Breakfast was really nice and our evening meal was out of this world. So tempted to... More

My mum and dad brought me for my first doggie holiday and I loved it, lots of grass for me to wander about on and I will now pass you over to the grown ups. (Mouse the Jack Russell). We had 2 rooms for 2 nights both of which were spotlessly clean and comfortable. Room 3 had a lovely view... More

Fast easy check in. Clean & comfortable rooms. Nice selection of drinks at the bar. Lovely breakfast. Helpful and attentive staff. Good base. We usually stay in Bowness but as we needed 3 rooms and was a last minute thing we could only get this. However, not a problem as only 6 miles from Bowness. As long as you have... More
