Lovely views from the terrace of this farm. No frills, but great for a pot of tea and a slice of cake. Better than stopping in the centre of Coniston.

Came for afternoon tea. Tried the carrot cake, chocolate brownie and bake well tart. All very good. Will have to try the courgette cake next time! We recommend this place to visitors and will come again. An important pilgrimage for swallows and amazons alike.

Great setting on the eastern side of Coniston Water. A lovely setting in the converted farmhouse, great food and good service from the owner and his staff. Don't miss!!

Perfect lunch spot, fresh and delicious food. With plenty of vegetarian options too! Homemade bread and cakes. After eating out around the lakes, this definitely gets our vote. Reasonable prices and amazing views of the lake!!

Lovely venue and staff - food was nice, but at around £8 - £10 for a ploughman's or a sandwich I felt a bit disappointed by what was served. Enjoyed it but wouldn't return.

Beautiful location. Convenient being on the path to brantwood. Having called in and gone into the kitchen to try and find someone to serve, in the end no one would come out. They just warned there would be additional charges if we were thinking of...More

We visited this lovely tea room/restaurant after a visit to Brantwood. The place itself was very cute; lots of little nooks to sit even larger families. The food was great-much more than I expected for a 'tea room'. We all had something different from lentil...More

Our trip to The Lake District was planned around anything and everything to do with Swallows and Amazons. Lunch at 'Holly Howe' was a highlight for us. The kids pretended to be Roger tacking up the hill to Mother and explored the memorabilia in the...More

Wonderful location and great people made this B&B a top stay. Definitely stop by for food, and stay the night if you can.

Being a huge Swallows and Amazons fan, my initial disappointment at not being able to book a cottage at Bank Ground Farm, the setting for Holly Howe in the book, was overcome when I found out that the farm runs a tearoom allowing non-residents to...More

Description
The Swallows and Amazons Tearoom & Farm Shop/Restaurant serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. We serve light as well as hearty keep warm meals, homemade cakes, luxury ice cream and hot & cold drinks. We also have a great selection of wine and local Lake District ale for you to enjoy with your meal. The view from the tearoom and beer garden across the lake are sensational, it is no surprise that Bank Ground Farm inspired Arthur Ransome to write Swallows and Amazons during one of his stays. Easily accessible to both cyclists and mountain bikers. Many of Grizedale's routes run close by, so come and boost your energy levels and have a light lunch and cake! Bank Ground is on the edge of the lake, opposite the village of Coniston, so you can even arrive by boat! With a footpath on our doorstep, we are also accessible to walkers too, a mere 25 minute walk from the centre of Coniston! The restaurant is open in the evenings, however it is essential to book in advance as we are not open every evening. Occasionally we host events so please check our website to make sure we are open and avoid disappointment.
