We went here on a Saturday night and they managed to fit us in without booking. She even said she would fit us in a spot that wasn't booked all night so we didn't have to rush. The food was lovely especially the stuffed peppers for starters and the steak for main was perfect. The service and staff were great,... More

We visited just after New Year, the restaurant was quiet but soon got busy. The food was excellent and the service was also very good. My partner is vegetarian and often struggles to find nice meals but was very pleased with her mushroom ravioli dish. I had steak and it was cooked to perfection - medium rare, which I find... More

The restaurant looked lovely and the staff were welcoming and helpful on arrival so a great start to a special evening....or so we thought. Unfortunately the food was disappointing and over priced. I get that it is New Years Eve and therefore you expect to pay more than normal but £32 for half a lobster each, which amounted to two... More

My wife and I ate here during a short break as probably as our third choice as the other two that were higher rated according to TripAdvisor were either shut or fully booked. However we really enjoyed our evening here. It was snowing outside but so cosy inside. The staff were very friendly and the service was spot on. The... More

Decided at short notice to stop off on the way home from Scotland for a night and booked into a guest house in Ambleside. This restaurant was recommended by Lynn the owner of Melrose Place and we are so glad she told us about it. The restaurant itself was really quaint, staff were delightful and attentive, it had the feel... More

Limited time available before our return boat trip, craving a cream tea and all cafes and tea rooms full, we stumbled across this place by chance and luckily they had a free table! Friendly staff, lovely historic building and delicious food. 3 of us had cream tea, with comments of "this is the best, most delicious scone I've had in... More

The give away should have been it was the only available restaurant on a Saturday night. Although the waitress was very apologetic about the food she was embarrassed by what was delivered. The steak was mainly gristle and the mouse was solid so had to be sent back. The couple next to us had a chewy lamb shank which they... More

We stayed in Ambleside between Christmas & New Year and ate out every night. There are some excellent restaurants in Ambleside & we loved The Priesthole - it is interesting reading about its history while enjoying a drink before the food. We were impressed with the food - my partner had the game pate & then the fish pie which... More

An old building that needs a internal refurb. Our table of twelve were served decent food and the staff were great.

We have a delightful outside terrace for alfresco meals on those warmer days, or just to sit and have a coffee and watch the world go by. (Dogs welcome on the terrace.)
