Booked within a few days of our yearly pilgrimage to Ambleside for the Christmas Lights so to say we managed to get a table was very lucky. Although it was busy busy the staff, a young lady especially who coped incrediblely well with two other large tables as well as ourselves was fantastic, knowledgeable and service first class. When placing... More

I took my Girlfriend for her Birthday meal. We visited on Steak night, where we got two steaks and a bottle of wine for £35. The steak was exceptional, it was cooked to just how we like it, and very well presented. The service was good, friendly and knocked about. Will recommend to all my friends and family, thank you... Manager : "sorry, we've no spare chairs". Pause... Me : "so you cannot make one of those spare tables for four into a five?" Manager :... More

We ate here last week on a whim; we come to Ambleside a couple of times a year & didn't eat here last year so thought we'd try it. I'm glad we did. The atmosphere in the restaurant is lovely and cosy. We were sat in the front dining room which was very nice, particularly on a cold wintry night.... More

We chanced our arm and turned up without booking but were lucky to get a table. It’s a lovely old building and very cosy. The staff are friendly, welcoming and very efficient. We went for the falafel burger and the duck breast, both really good. We’d recommend the Priest Hole and would try and go back the next time we’re... More

I'm not going to eulogise about this gem of a restaurant, just go there and enjoy the excellent food, wonderful ambience and friendly, helpful staff. We will definitely be eating there again!

We popped in for a lunch. I went for a lunch offer of a sandwich and a cup of soup. My partner took a new item on the menu — fish pie. The fish pie was spot on: tasty fresh fish in creamy sauce as it should be. And I enjoyed my choice too as everything was delicious, including a... More

We have a delightful outside terrace for alfresco meals on those warmer days, or just to sit and have a coffee and watch the world go by. (Dogs welcome on the terrace.)
