Such a cute cafe to meet a friend at and have a delicious cup of coffee or a lunch date. The staff are always very pleasant and polite. My friend and I sat indoors this visit as it was quite cold outside, even though the...al fresco tables are a delight in the pretty courtyard. We arrived early and despite the table being reserved for a lunch booking, we were permitted to sit there for over an hour to people watch, chat and have a coffee whilst church street shoppers browsed the lovely shops outside. This cafe is not very big so if you plan to drop in on a weekend it’s a good idea to book a table. The food is delicious whatever day of the week you visit.More

A lovely escape from the everyday hustle/bustle . A good selection and specials to choose from. My partner and I had to have the fish pie and boy it was wonderful and creamy, cheesy and also quite light. Very enjoyable on a cold December day.

Booked a table for lunch on this lovely little restaurant, with a friend. We had the opportunity to have a good catch up over a delicious lunch of cheese quiche with caramelised onions, salad and new potatoes. The food was delicious, the service top notch...and the ambience is always lovely here. We had a coffee to finish off the meal which is always good here.More

From outside, a modest little eatery in a narrow street in Hereford. But what a gastronomic experience! I have been fortunate to enjoy food in some famous establishments, including recently Ynyshir in mid-Wales, which was fabulous. However, the dinner provided to me and my motorcycling...buddy by Ed, chef-patron, at La Madeleine came a very close second. The ‘beef three ways’ looked gorgeous served on a wooden platter. The piece of steak was cooked perfectly and was exploding with flavour. The cylinder of compressed pulled beef cheek was similarly flavoursome and covered with intensely crunchy panko breadcrumbs, adding a welcome textural contrast. The little pot of baby onions and slow-cooked beef was sublime in its buttery unctuousness. The chips were the best I have ever tasted (and that includes Ynyshir). Our waitress, Evelyn-May, was utterly delightful and coped gracefully with a bit of gentle banter from two old men. She found time to chat with us warmly and made us feel welcome and nurtured. We loved her hair! I am busy planning a second visit even though it will involve travelling again from Northern Ireland, to allow my wife to experience this very special little restaurant. As long as Ed can promise to cook us the same dish to precisely the same standard.More

We were visiting Hereford for the day and stumbled upon this place by luck. We found the staff absolutely lovely, the food was delicious and the atmosphere friendly. Was a lovely lunch and I highly recommend this place.

Had visited before but having been described as a French restaurant it was disappointing this time as the only French dish on the menu had finished, and none of the red wine was French! Added to very slow service I would not recommend this restaurant...again.More

I booked La Madeleine for my special birthday party in March. We had the whole restaurant to ourselves. It was a fabulous evening. I chose the menu with Jans help. She was very accommodating in trying to meet my exact requirements The food was absolutely...divine. Beautifully cooked and presented, and served in a timely fashion by Jans excellent team. All the dishes were excellent but I must say my burrata starter and the feather blade steak made me and many other guests very happy. We stayed later than planned but at no time felt rushed. A huge thank you to Jan and her excellent team for making the severing special and memorable.More

I had my retirement party here for 24 people. The atmosphere was great, the staff were great and the food was great. It’s a brilliant place for a private do, you can discuss the menu with Jan and have the whole place to yourselves. I...would highly recommend it. In the summer the garden is fabulous too, for coffee or lunch or a glass of wine in the sun. Definitely one of my favourite places in Hereford.More

We had the Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea and it was absolutely lovely. Generous sandwiches and quiche followed by scones and a very good selection of cakes and treats. Too much to eat there so we had the left overs boxed up to take home. Will...definitely return.More

I had used this restaurant before for coffee and cake and found it to be a very pleasant atmosphere with friendly staff so returned for breakfast. I arrived just as it opened and although I knew the breakfast menu is limited, I ordered 2 poached...eggs and a pot of tea. The tea was excellent and whilst the food was very good and eggs cooked to perfection for me, I was disappointed that there was only 1 slice of toast and a very small slice at that, more like half a slice. For £6 I would have expected at least 2 ‘proper’ slices. The staff were very friendly again but I would not return for breakfast.More

Went in for coffees as our usual coffee venue was packed out. Waited ages to be served in a very quiet cafe. Waitress basically said is that all you are ordering in a peeved fashion presumably as we didn’t also order food. Bit rude…. When...the drinks came my husband asked for milk for his Americano and the older woman serving said abruptly “You didn’t ask for any” which is an odd response as their wait staff usually ask if he wants hot or cold milk with it and the young waitress hadn’t asked him when he ordered. Don’t really think that’s the way to speak to customers…..totally put us off going there again.More
