Met some friends for Sunday lunch here as it was equi-distant from where we both happened to be that weekend, so luckily won't have call to return. It was very busy but there was nowhere to wait without standing right next to some poor person who was trying to eat their lunch. Service was very slow, and 25 minutes after... More

Three of us arrived without a booking at 13:40 on a Thursday, while walking along the river Itchen. Only two tables were unoccupied, but we were quickly made welcome, and enjoying a starter of beetroot with goats cheese, walnuts and leaves. Two of us then had classic fish and chips (cod) with mushy peas, and one had skate wing with... More

I chose this pub for my birthday meal along with my husband and 2 friends as, over the years, I had often heard how good the food was. We opened the door to a very inviting open fire. Unfortunately we had to wait quite a while for our drinks order to be taken. Once our food order was placed we... More

Not very busy for Sunday lunch but the service was dreadful and the meals expensive for what you got. Not enough menus, confusion over what was soup of the day, asking us to pay for the bill when we hadn't had the coffee we'd paid for, not being offered a dessert - THESE ARE VERY BASIC THINGS!!

We took our friends there expecting the food to be top notch. Unfortunately we were very disappointed as the portions were extremely small for the price which is a recurring problem.

The gardens are lovely and if you are lucky enough to get a table, you're in for a treat. If you're unlucky, you might find yourself squashed in in the back room where it is incredibly dingy and uncomfortable. The menu and food are average and overpriced in my opinion. I do love their desserts tho!

Sunday lunch is not perhaps the best meal to choose for a first visit but we did. Lovely pub in a very pretty village but sadly the food and service in no way matched the location and atmosphere. It was very busy which is probably why things took so long. We arrived at 1pm and left after 4 having had... More

We came by this lovely little pub quite by accident and even though we did not gave a booking and we're just a couple of minutes before last orders for lunch, it was not a problem and we were shown to a cosy corner table in the restaurant. The food and service were very good indeed. We had steak and... More

We booked at the last minute, staff were really helpful and friendly. The food was really good and they were very able to cater for a gluten free diet. The pub interior is lovely, very pretty and 'olde worlde'. The service was excellent and we could park our camper van overnight on the pub car park.

This is a lovely 'olde worlde' pub with a good ambiance. Our walking group was seated in a private room with a beamed ceiling and cosy fireplace. We pre-ordered our food and it was served in good time. The food from the '2 courses for £12' menu was very good and enjoyed by all. Fresh warm rolls and butter were... More
