This place was so odd and so unusual. A step back in time, food was excellent. The full English was a must have, so don’t skip it. The evening meal was excellent. The room was small, but had everything that I needed. Becoming a fan...More

The place is a treasure and updates were appreciated. Would have given 5 stars, but service has deteriorated since our last visit. Breakfast often ran out of croissants and some jams, and the fruit plate was meager and picked over. Housekeeping entirely forgot to do...More

Been too long since I had visited this great old Winchester pub. Just as I remember; it was as time had stood still; in a good way!

We were part of a large family gathering in the upstairs dining room. Everyone had been asked to choose from limited set menus several days in advance but the desserts were changed at the last minute and this caused confusion. We thought £35 for the...More

Great find, business trip, private dining room upstairs, great service, but steaks over cooked (my blue was medium rare at best). could spend days wandering around the memorabilia in the pub downstairs.

Booked dinner for 1945 and was running around 15 mins late. Unfortunately a number of ten gates in Winchester were closed for renovation and we had a member of the family in a wheelchair We tried to call the pub a number of times to...More

5 of us enjoyed an evening at this excellent hostelry. The surroundings are surreal, the staff superb, the food tasty but the portion sizes were nouveau cuisine in the extreme, far to small. We went away hungry. What a shame!
