I ate here with some friends and the quality of the food was excellent but the main course portions were very different. Three mains were a good size - a large piece of fish, decent portion of chips and peas, for example - whereas my...More

Very atmospheric, with quirky decor and friendly and efficient staff. I chose the burger and chips, which was all definitely home-made, full of flavour and perfectly cooked. A classic pub, keeping up its high standards.

I've been coming here for more than 30 years and have written a number of reviews from outstanding to poor. We went last night and unfortunately for us it sat in the latter box.It seems to have gone to 'nouvelle cuisine' style which is ok...More

The pub itself is rather fetching (both indoors and out). Furthermore, the staff are very friendly and accommodating. However, the price of food is quite expensive, for what it is (that being; average). Still, I would recommend this pub to those with families and those...More

It was actually recommended to me by a friend who studied in Winchester many years ago, and still remembers it! I would normally feel slightly shy going to a traditional pub as a woman on her own, as many of them can be full of...More

Location is excellent by the Kingsgate and Einchestet Cathedral. Ambiance is good. Food very good. Portions reasonable. I was a bit disappointed my rhubarb pie didn't have more rhubarb, but after I drew this to the server's attention I was not charged for that item....More
